CANYON, Texas – No. 8-ranked West Texas A&M softball hits the road for its first true road games of the season on Saturday, Feb. 22. The Lady Buffs begin their road trip in Lawton, Okla. for a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader against the Cameron Aggies at McMahon Field.
GAME COVERAGE
The Athletic Communications Department from Cameron will provide live stats and a pay-per-view web stream. Fans will need to purchase a monthly ($19.99) or annual ($107.88) subscription with FloSports, the official streaming provider of the Lone Star Conference. The subscription allows fans access to any content available on FloSports.
A LOOK AT THE #8 LADY BUFFS
The Lady Buffs wrapped up their opening weekend of Lone Star Conference action with a sweep of St. Mary's. WT held off a late comeback from the Rattlers in game one for a 4-3 victory. In game two, the Lady Buffs jumped ahead early on their way to an 11-3 run-rule win in six innings.
The Lady Buffs feature another high-octane lineup that ranks inside the top 10 for Division II for almost every offensive category including top five standings in batting average, on-base percentage, scoring, and slugging percentage. WT leads the country in doubles, hits, home runs, RBIs, runs, stolen bases, and triples.
Junior
Lauren Granger ranks second in the country with 24 hits and 47 total bases with other top 10 standings in over offensive categories. Granger's .533 batting average leads the team where all nine qualified players hold a .333 batting average or higher.
Emilee Boyer's 23 RBIs rank third in the nation as the junior utility also ranks in the top 20 in other categories nationwide.
In the circle, WT has posted a 1.37 ERA with 114 strikeouts and 17 earned runs in 87 innings. Boyer and Vortherms have over 40 strikeouts each on the season as
Kendall Selitzky also has double digits (16) on the season.
Head Coach
Michael Mook is in his sixth season at WT, registering a 200-53 (.791) record in that time. For his career, Mook holds 354-114 record in 10 seasons for an overall winning percentage of .756.
SCOUTING CAMERON
Cameron started its Lone Star Conference journey with a 0-4 record, dropping its overall record to 3-5 overall. In their most recent series, the Aggies fell to Angelo State 8-0 in five innings and 5-3 in game two.
Madysen Boutwell leads the Aggies offense as the junior holds a .417 batting average with a 1.379 OPS, .917 slugging average, and .462 on-base percentage. The Aledo, Texas native paces Cameron with 10 hits, four doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs, and 22 total bases. Kaiden Boren follows with a .409 average, 1.122 OPS, and a .682 slugging percentage.
As a pitching staff, the Aggies hold a 5.87 ERA in 45.1 innings of work. During that time, opponents are hitting .314 while hitting 11 doubles, three triples, and six home runs while striking out 38 times. Stormee Reed leads the staff with a 3.99 ERA on five appearances with four starts including four complete games. Tinley Schmidgall has appeared in four of Cameron's eight games with four starts.
Bryan Howard is in his first season as the head coach of the Cameron program and third overall. Howard holds a 50-67 (.427) record for her career with a 3-5 (.375) record at the helm of the Aggies.
THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Cameron 44-14 including 12-6 in Lawton. The Lady Buffs are 10-2 against the Aggies under
Michael Mook. Last season, WT run-ruled Cameron 10-1 in six innings in game one of the series. Game two saw a pitcher's duel go to the sixth inning where a two-run home run proved to be the difference. In the series finale, the Lady Buffs held off the Aggies for a 10-6 victory and series win.

NFCA RANKINGS
UT Tyler received all 16 first-place votes for 400 points to remain in the top spot of the poll. Auburn Montgomery (382) held at No. 2 with Tampa (361) jumping into the No. 3 spot followed by Wilmington (345) and Angelo State (342) at the fourth and fifth spots, respectively. Augustana (323) and Rogers State (294) sit ahead of WT (259) with Francis Marion (267) and Western Washington (259) closing out the top 10.
The South Central region is represented by five teams with UT Tyler leading the way at No. 1. Angelo State (5
th), WT (8
th), Oklahoma Christian (20
th), and Lubbock Christian (23
rd) earned spots in the rankings.
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning National Champion UT Tyler took the top spot in the poll with 34 first-place votes and 672 points followed by WT with eight first-place votes and 642 points. Angelo State grabbed the final first-place vote for 590 points with Oklahoma Christian following at 528 points. Lubbock Christian and St. Mary's tied for fifth in the poll with each school totaling 483 points. Texas Woman's (382), Texas A&M-Kingsville (372), Cameron (348), and Eastern New Mexico (315) occupy the seventh through 10
th spots, respectively. St. Edward's (293), Texas A&M International (215), Midwestern State (214), UT Permian Basin (97), and Sul Ross State (72) round out the poll.
