CANYON. Texas – The Lady Buffs hit the road for Lone Star Conference divisional action on Thursday night as they make their way to San Angelo, Texas to take on the rival Belles of Angelo State with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. at Stephens Arena inside of the Junell Center.
 
LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN RECAP
The Lady Buffs struggled on the offensive end of the court on Sunday afternoon as they dropped a 70-56 decision to the #20 Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. Kyla Kane paced the West Texas A&M offense as the junior went 6-of-11 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line for a team-high 18 points followed by Hollie Stalder with 14 points.
 
A LOOK AT THE BELLES
Angelo State enters the weekend riding an LSC-best eight-game winning streak as they are 10-3 overall with a 6-1 mark in conference action. The Belles picked up a pair of divisional road wins last weekend at Western New Mexico (66-49) and Sul Ross State (92-49).
 
Sunday's contest in Alpine saw Angelo State scored 33 points in the first quarter and never look back on their way to a dominant 92-49 victory over the Lobos. Five Belles finished in double-figures led by Madeline Stephens with 17 points and 13 rebounds for her third consecutive double-double. 
 
The Belles, picked sixth in the LSC women's basketball preseason poll, finished last season with an overall record of 20-12 with a 14-8 mark in league action. Angelo State advanced to the quarterfinal round of the LSC Championships before falling to UT Permian Basin in Frisco, 71-51.
 
Stephens, a Second Team All-LSC selection last season, leads the way offensively for the Belles as the senior forward from Lubbock has gone 70-of-160 (43.8%) from the floor including 9-of-25 (36%) from deep and 30-of-35 (85.7%) from the free throw line to average 13.8 points per game to go along with 134 rebounds (10.3/game), 24 assists, 14 blocks and 26 steals. She is 11th in the Lone Star Conference in scoring (13.8) while sitting second in rebounds (10.3) and sixth in blocks (1.1).
 
ASU HEAD COACH ALESHA ELLIS
Alesha Ellis is now in her fourth season at the helm of the Angelo State women's basketball program after spending eight seasons at Wayland Baptist where she led the Flying Queens to an overall mark of 189-52 with eight NAIA Tournament appearances. Ellis was a standout prep-player at nearby Plainview High School where she claimed three 3A State Championships with the Bulldogs followed by a collegiate career at Texas Tech.
 
THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon marks the 84th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Belles as WT holds a 60-23 advantage in the series that dates back to 1987. The Lady Buffs are 52-13 all-time in San Angelo.
 
The last meeting came on February 10th as Karley Motschenbacher went 8-of-14 from the floor including 3-of-6 from deep for a game-high 23 points, Nyalam Thabach registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds while Kyla Kane (13) and Grace Alvarez (10) scored also scored in double-figures in a 68-55 victory by the Lady Buffs in the Concho Valley.
 
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his fourth season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs made the program's 28th appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason during the 2022-23 campaign as they went 21-11 overall including a 14-8 mark in Lone Star Conference action. 
 
Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June, 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to their only three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 286-45 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 86.6%. WT has averaged 1,035 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
LIVE COVERAGE
The contest will be broadcasted on FloCollege. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history.
 
HOME OF CHAMPIONS
West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II. The Buffs and Lady Buffs finished third in the 2023-24 Division II LEARFIELD Director's Cup standings. It marked the sixth straight and eighth overall time that WT finished inside of the Top-10 including the fifth straight inside of the Top-5.
 
LSC NEWS & NOTES (JAN. 6)
The second half of the Lone Star Conference women's basketball season got off to a solid start with a full slate of division matchups. Four teams – two in the East Division and two in the West Division – kept their division won-loss records clean as each opened 2025 with a pair of victories. UT Tyler and Texas A&M-Kingsville are 3-0 atop the East Division while Lubbock Christian and UT Permian Basin lead the West Division at 3-0.
 
Season standings based on the overall LSC record – games vs. all conference opponents – show six teams tied for the top spot, all with 6-1 (.857) marks: Angelo State, Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian, Texas Woman's, UT Permian Basin and UT Tyler. Seeding for the eight-team LSC Tournament is based on overall standings (22 games). The East and West Division winners automatically qualify for the LSC Tournament but are not guaranteed a top two seed.
 
Angelo State and Texas Woman's carry winning streaks into the week. ASU added road wins against Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State for a league-best eight straight wins. TWU took to the road collecting wins vs. Cameron and Oklahoma Christian to move its win streak to seven games. ... Eastern New Mexico had its eight-game win streak halted by Lubbock Christian on Friday, 59-53.
