CANYON. Texas – The Lady Buffs jump back into Lone Star Conference action on Thursday night as they welcome the Cameron Aggies to the First United Bank Center with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. in Canyon.
 
NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS RECAP
West Texas A&M sophomore forward 
Taylor Haggan scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds on Saturday afternoon to lead the Lady Buffs to a 74-65 regional victory over the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls to conclude the Lady Buff Thanksgiving Classic in Canyon. The Parker, Texas native went 6-of-12 from the field including 6-of-8 from the free throw line for her first double-double of the season. 
Randi Harding added 13 points and five boards followed by 
Hollie Stalder and 
Claire Graham with 12 points each, Stalder grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double of her own.
 
A LOOK AT THE AGGIES
Cameron enters the weekend with an overall record of 2-2 as they begin Lone Star Conference action on Thursday night in Canyon. Cameron has picked up victories over East Central (69-59) and Northwestern Oklahoma State (82-78) while falling to Harding (78-48) and Southeastern Oklahoma State (62-53).
 
CU will play their first contest in 10 days on Thursday night, their last game came on November 25th in an 82-78 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State in Lawton. Grace Alverson and Shamica Smith both scored 20 points in the victory while Smith grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double.
 
The Aggies, picked ninth in the LSC Basketball preseason coaches' poll, went 11-17 last season with a 9-13 mark in league action to finish tied for fourth in the West Division and tied for eighth overall to narrowly miss the LSC Tournament.
 
Smith, a senior forward from Norman, leads the way offensively for the Aggies as she has gone 20-of-46 (43.5%) from the floor including 12-of-15 (80%) from the charity stripe to average 13.0 points per game to go along with 40 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal.
 
CU HEAD COACH JEFF MAHONEY
Jeff Mahoney is in his second season at the helm of the Cameron women's basketball program after being promoted in May of 2022 following three seasons as the program's top assistant. He helped the Aggies make three trips to the LSC Championships as well as a spot in the 2021 NCAA South Central Regional Tournament.
 
Mahoney spent part of the 2021-22 campaign as the interim head coach for the Cameron men's program. The Roosevelt, Oklahoma product is a 1986 graduate of Cameron as he played baseball for the Aggies for two seasons. 
 
THE SERIES
Thursday night will mark the 58th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Aggies as WT holds a 51-6 advantage in the series that dates back to 1982. The Aggies are 1-29 all-time in Canyon, dropping their last 12 trips to the Texas Panhandle.
 
The last meeting on February 1st saw 
Nyalam Thabach go 8-of-12 from the floor for a team-high 18 points to go along with eight rebounds and an assist, 
Grace Alvarez (11) and 
Jayla Burgess (10) finished in double-figures as the Lady Buffs picked up a 69-65 victory at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
 
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his fourth season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs made the program's 28th appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason during the 2022-23 campaign as they went 21-11 overall including a 14-8 mark in Lone Star Conference action. 
 
Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June, 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to their only three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 283-44 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 86.6%. WT has averaged 1,035 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
LIVE COVERAGE
The contest will be broadcasted on FloCollege. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history.
 
HOME OF CHAMPIONS
West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II. The Buffs and Lady Buffs finished third in the 2023-24 Division II LEARFIELD Director's Cup standings. It marked the sixth straight and eighth overall time that WT finished inside of the Top-10 including the fifth straight inside of the Top-5.
 
LSC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore forward 
Taylor Haggan was dominant in the paint for West Texas A&M as it picked up South Central regional wins over Adams State and New Mexico Highlands during the WT Thanksgiving Classic. Haggan collected 25 rebounds – 18 defensive, three steals and a block as Haggan helped WT hold the two opponents to a combined 56.5-point average on .326 field goal shooting. Haggan posted a career-best 16 rebounds and season-high 18 points vs. NMHU for her first WT double-double, finishing the weekend shooting 7-of-14 (.500) from the floor and 6-of-8 (.750) from the line.
