CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M shot a 293 on Tuesday during the final round of the RJGA South Central Shootout at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Golf Club (Par 72 – 7,166 Yards) in Ruidoso, New Mexico to pick up a second-place finish on the team leaderboard.
Stetson Provence, playing as an individual, led the way for the Buffs as the Amarillo native shot a 215 (-1) as he finished fourth overall. Provence had four birdies during the final round on his way to a two-over 74 on Tuesday.
Santiago Caride was solid during the 54-hole event as the junior from Bariloche, Argentina carded rounds of 72, 70 and 74 for a 216 (E) to finish tied for fifth overall.
The Buffs finished the event with a +9 (873) as they registered 17 birdies on Tuesday with 13 of those coming from their team lineup.
UT Permian Basin shot rounds of 289, 284 and 298 for a total score of 871 (+7) to claim the team title by two strokes over the Buffs. Fort Lewis finished third with a +11 (875) followed by Lubbock Christian (880, +16) and host Western New Mexico (+25, 889) to round out the top five.
Traejan Andrews of Fort Lewis picked up the individual title with a -5 (211) to claim a three-stroke victory over UTPB's Will Tate and Arnav Arkanath of Western New Mexico (-2, 214).
The Buffs return to the court next Monday and Tuesday as they host the annual Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational at Amarillo Country Club.
