CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M women's soccer returns to Canyon, Texas for its home opener on Sunday. The Lady Buffs host the Grizzlies of Adams State at 1 p.m. and are looking to build off their home success from the 2022 season.

All TIME SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Adams State, 7-1-0. The Lady Buffs have won two-straight meetings including a 3-0 victory last season in Alamosa, Colo. Since the series started in 2004, WT has outscored Adams State 36-4.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Buffs scored the opening goal against CSU Pueblo early in the second half. The Lady Buffs turned defense into offense and broke the scoring drought in the 58th minute after CSU Pueblo conceded a free kick in the WT defensive half of the field. After the kick bounced around, Reagan Matacale sent a centering pass across the face of goal, finding Bailey Murray on the back post. The ThunderWolves tied the game in the 68^th minute when CSU Pueblo placed a free kick into the back of the net. The game went knotted at one for the remainder of regulation.
 
SCOUTING ADAMS STATE
The Grizzlies opened their season with a scoreless draw against Eastern New Mexico on Aug. 31. Adams State turned around and played conference opponent Fort Lewis the following Saturday. Against the Skyhawks, the Grizzlies allowed a first-half goal and trailed at halftime. After halftime, Fort Lewis added another goal early into the second half. Adams State cut the advantage in half on Karlee Caballero's penalty kick in the 69^th minute, but the deficit was too much at the end of 90 minutes.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning Lone Star Conference champion Dallas Baptist picked up 37 of 39 possible first-place votes and 504 points to top the poll. Angelo State followed the Patriots in the standings with 457 points. WT finished third (one first-place, 412) while Lubbock Christian (351) and St. Mary's (339) rounded out the top five.
 
St. Edward's received the sixth spot with 318 points followed by Midwestern State (299) and UT Tyler (219). Texas A&M International (182) and Oklahoma Christian (149) finish the top 10 with Texas Woman's (127), Eastern New Mexico (114), and UT Permian Basin (78) conclude the rankings.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
The Lady Buffs remain at home for a matchup with Southwestern Oklahoma State when WT takes on the Bulldogs. Kickoff is slated for Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. on The Pitch.
