Lady Buffs Meet Mavericks for Neutral Site Contest

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M women's soccer team will face off with the Colorado Mesa Mavericks for the first time since 2012. Kickoff between the Lady Buffs and Mavericks is scheduled for 2 p.m. Central at FLC Dirks Field in Durango, Colo.

All TIME SERIES
WT and Colorado Mesa have split the all-time series with each team gathering a win and a draw. Saturday's meeting will serve as the fourth time the two teams have played and first since 2012. In that meeting, the Lady Buffs and Mavericks ended in a 3-3 draw to open the season.  
 
LAST TIME OUT
WT couldn't gather offensive momentum in a 2-0 shutout loss to Fort Lewis on Thursday. The Lady Buffs fell behind in the 27th minute when Amber Otts found Aubrey Swindle in the attacking third of the field. The Skyhawks doubled their lead in the 46th minute when Gabi Meraz-Fishbein converted a penalty kick. At the end of the match, WT faced a 24-4 deficit in shots and 12-2 separation in shots on goal. Despite the loss, Reagan Heelan made 10 saves.
 
SCOUTING COLORADO MESA
The Mavericks enter Saturday's contest with an overall record of 4-0. Colorado Mesa started the season with a 3-0 victory over Lubbock Christian before turning in a 2-1 win over Cal State-San Bernardino. The Mavericks then took down Newman in a dominating 7-1 win before defeating Angelo State 2-0 on Thursday. The Colorado Mesa defense has only allowed one goal all season and hasn't conceded a point in their last 218 minutes of play.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning Lone Star Conference champion Dallas Baptist picked up 37 of 39 possible first-place votes and 504 points to top the poll. Angelo State followed the Patriots in the standings with 457 points. WT finished third (one first-place, 412) while Lubbock Christian (351) and St. Mary's (339) rounded out the top five.
 
St. Edward's received the sixth spot with 318 points followed by Midwestern State (299) and UT Tyler (219). Texas A&M International (182) and Oklahoma Christian (149) finish the top 10 with Texas Woman's (127), Eastern New Mexico (114), and UT Permian Basin (78) conclude the rankings.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
WT travels to Oklahoma City for Its Lone Star Conference opener with Oklahoma Christian. The Lady Buffs and Eagles are set to kickoff at 4:30 p.m. at the Eagle Soccer Field.
