PORTALES, TX – The No. 12 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs will compete in the 2023 Lone Star Conference Championships on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Portales, New Mexico. The women's 6-kilometer race is set for 10:30 a.m. CT.Â

GOING FOR THE CROWN
The Lady Buffs look to debunk the reigning LSC Champion DBU after recording runner-up finishes to the Patriots in seasons past. The 15-team race is slated to see a battle between the Lady Buffs and the Patriots. Â

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
Last season, alumnae Florance Uwajaneza was the first runner in Lone Star Conference history to win three straight titles since Angelo State's Helen O'Sullivan in 1992. This season will look to freshman
Sarah Koomson and seasoned veteran
Eleonora Curtabbi to lead the pack.Â

IT TAKES AN ARMY
Koomson has won two individual titles at the Texas Tech Open and Big Country Festival while finishing third in the highly competitive Live in Lou Classic. Curtabbi, the 2021 newcomer of the year, ran in the Live in Lou where she finished 10
th out of the 300+ runners. They're backed by one of the deepest squads in program history that could claim the team title for the first time since 2013. Â

Graduate transfer,
Olivia McLain, comes with a plethora of experience at a high level and is no stranger to championship races. McLain previously ran for Lee University where she garnered All-GSC First Team and All-South Region accolades. She's been a steady contender for the Lady Buffs this season while finishing 11
th at the Texas Tech Open. Transfer student-athlete, Elise leveel, will be right beside the starting pack as she has had stellar performances this season in the maroon and white. Leveel finished the third highest for WT at the Live in Lou Classic at 41
st and came in top ten at the Texas Tech Open at 5
th.Â

IN THE RANKINGS
Two schools from the Lone Star Conference were represented in the women's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Coaches Poll with WT in 12
th and DBU in 23
rd. Grand Valley comes in at No. 1 followed by Adams State, Colorado School of Mines, Western Colorado and Lee University rounding out the top five.Â

LOOKING TO SCORE
Following the conference race, the Lady Buffs will compete at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in Lubbock, TX on Nov. 4
th at Lubbock Christian.  The top three teams from each regional meet will automatically advance to the NCAA National Championships on Nov. 18
th, while the remaining 10 squads will receive at-large bids.Â
