CANYON, Texas – The fourth-ranked Lady Buffs look to continue their impressive season on Saturday morning as they compete in the NCAA Division II South Central Region Cross Country Championships.
Â
The race is hosted by CSU Pueblo and will take place at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colorado. The women's 6K race begins at 12:00 p.m. CT followed by the men's 10K race at 11:15 p.m. CT. Â Fans can follow
live results.
Â
Walking Stick Golf Course serves as this year's regional venue. The 6,000-meter course consists of three 2K loops weaving through the fairways. Weather doesn't seem to be a factor after last year's winter storm in Denver as Saturday's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, with a high near 58°F and a low of 24°F.
Â
The first four runners to cross the finish line at the LSC Championships were wearing Maroon & White as
Sarah Koomson ran a time of 21:04.53 to become the second athlete in program history to win multiple LSC Titles. The Lady Buffs won their fifth LSC Championship as
Naomi Addo crossed the line just behind Koomson with a time of 21:04.80 followed by
Abigail Abugire (21:29.89) and
Julie Lafare (21:30.88).
Â
Twenty-six women's and 24 men's teams are scheduled to compete in what may be the most competitive regional site in Division II as six women's teams and six men's teams from the two conferences rank among the Top 15 Division II teams in the latestÂ
USTFCCCA coaches polls.
Â
West Texas A&M, who swept both LSC titles at the conference championships October 25, have the highest ranked LSC teams in both the national and region polls. WT women are No. 4 in the region and national lists with Midwestern State (9th) and UT Tyler (10th) joining them in the region ranking. On the men's side, WT is 12th nationally and fifth in the region with DBU (9th) and UT Tyler (10th) holding places in the region poll.
Â
The top three team finishers from the eight regional sites earn automatic qualification and 10 at-large teams are selected by the Division II Cross Country Committee. Following determination of qualifying teams, a minimum 24 additional individuals are selected. NCAA Championship selections are announced Monday, November 10 atÂ
NCAA.com.
Â
The Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships are Saturday, November 22, at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin.Â
