CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M's
Jahmaal Wilson broke a 28-year-old NCAA Division II record on Sunday at the WT Last Chance meet in Canyon.
Wilson is now the NCAA DII record holder in the 110-meter hurdles as the freshman ran a wind legal (1.7) 13.35 to break Brian Amos' record of 13.37 set back on May 12, 1994. The record breaks the Lone Star Conference record and school record, tying him 25
th among all collegiate levels.
Another record fell on Sunday as
Bassem Hemeida shattered his own school record in the 400-meter hurdles. The freshman ran a program-record 49.69 to improve his No. 2 position in the national rankings while also running the 13
thfastest time in DII history.
Freshman Seniru Amarsinghe finished second in the high jump, clearing 6-11.5 (2.12m).
Peniel Richard picked up a victory in the triple jump with a 51-4.5 (15.66m) provisional mark followed by
Sifiso Miya in third at 49-9.25 (15.17m).
Luke Holcombe threw 53-8.5 (16.37m) in the shot put to place second while
Jon Tucker finished fifth at 45-10.0 (13.97m).
Ray Dixon finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 170-4.0 (51.92m) before throwing 148-3.0 (45.20m) to take fifth while Holcombe finished fourth at 153-2.0 (46.70m).
The Buffs would grab four more victories on the track as
Quinton Sansing won the 400-meter dash with a time of 46.64 while
Jeremiah Lauzon ran 10.33 in the 100 to add another meet victory for the Buffs.
Abdelrahim Mahgoub finished first in the 800 running 1:54.00 on Sunday during which
Noah Bundrock ran 9:33.65 to win the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
On the women's side,
Brooke Urban picked up a victory in the high jump for the Lady Buffs with a clearance of 5-7.0 (1.70m) followed by
Taylor Nelloms in third (5-5; 1.65m) and
Elliot Harrison in fifth (5-1.0; 1.55m).
Jayna Lueders cleared 10-4.75 (3.17m) in the pole vault to finish fourth.
Freshman Hekla Sif Magnusdottir grabbed a win in the triple jump at 41-0.5 (12.51m) followed by
Stefani Vasileva finished third, jumping 39-6.0 (12.04m) while
Daniela Pesic won the long jump with a jump of 19-6.75 (5.96m).
Zada Swoopes finished third in the 164-8.0 (50.20m) in the hammer throw before returning to pick up the victory in discus with a mark of 168-2.0 (51.25m).
On the track,
Laiten Greeson finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.46 while Harrison competed in the 400m hurdles, running 1:02.55 to finished second.
Jordanae' Scott ran 11.96 in the 100 to take second while
Raquel Chavez finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:14.63.
Grace Dwyer won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running 10:55.32 to defeat Hardin-Simmons Kylah Holland.
Four Lady Buffs competed in the 400m led by
DeOndra Green. The freshman ran 23.45 to earn another victory for WT followed by
Jordan Brown in second at 23.85 while Scott finished fifth (24.27) and
Moillet Kouakou finished sixth (24.31).
