HOBBS, N.M. – The No. 1 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M grabbed hold of seven provisional marks at the Ross Black Open in Hobbs, N.M. hosted by New Mexico Junior College.  Due to high winds, many athletes withdrew from the finals of running events.

Four Buffs competing in the high jump led by freshman
Hamdi Alamin's clearance of 6-11.5 (2.12m) to take second.Â
Seniru Amarasinghe finished third at 6-7.5 (2.02m) followed by
Gerard Bryant (6-1.5, 1.87m) and
Traise Cain (5-7.75, 1.72m) in sixth and seventh.Â

Gabe Imery cleared 15-3.0 (4.65m) in the pole vault to finish third. Â
Dylan Gilliam finished fifth with a 14-3.25 (4.35m) clearance followed by
Dawson Gilliam in sixth at 13-9.25 (4.20m).

Sifiso Miya led the Buffs in the long jump as the freshman finished fifth with a 24-4.5 (7.43m) mark while
Hunter Warminski finished third in the triple jump at 43-4.25 (13.21m).Â

Luke Holcombe picked up a victory in the shot put with a toss of 54-4.5 (16.57m) to defeat Angelo State's Cole Paxton by over three feet. Â
Jon Tucker threw 154-8.0 (47.14m) to finish third in the discus while
Ray Dixon led in the hammer with a 170-7.0 (52.0m) toss to finish third.
Gerard Bryant finished fourth in the javelin at 140-4.0 (42.78m).

On the track, the Buffs had four athletes improve their provisional marks led by
Jalen Purcell.  The junior from San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago ran a personal-best 10.17 in the preliminaries to qualify for the finals. Â
Desmond Aryee ran 10.18 to also qualify for the finals followed by
Jeremiah Lauzon (10.26) and
Jahmaal Wilson (10.36).Â

Wilson also improved his provisional mark in the 110-meter hurdles as he ran 13.84 in the prelims to qualify for the finals. Â

Kash Starkey ran 58.10 to place fourth in the 400-meter hurdles followed by
Jared Cummins in eighth at 59.78.
