No. 6 West Texas A&M Take on No. 18 Angelo State on Monday

CANYON, Texas – No. 6 West Texas A&M softball (13-6, 2-4 LSC) will take on the No. 18 Rambelles of Angelo State (18-4, 3-3 LSC) today, March 14, in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader in San Angelo, Texas at Mayer Field.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. CT.
 
SCOUTING THE RAMBELLES
Angelo State is 18-4 on the season and opened conference play 3-3 including a series split with then nationally-ranked 18th Oklahoma Christian.  The Rambelles were selected to finish third in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll, receiving one vote and a total 571 points.
 
Under 20th-year head coach Travis Scott, the Rambelles have averaged 41 wins a season including six NCAA DII South Central Regional titles and six trips to the National Championships.  Scott has coached ASU to a 766-258-1 overall record 
 
ASU is batting .320 against opponents led by junior Paxton Schreuer.  The Mansfield product is hitting .439 with a league-high nine home runs for a .955 slugging-percentage.  She's started in all 22 games for the Rambelles at either short or third. 
 
Mykayla Stroud leads the offense in conference action hitting .412 with a team-high seven hits with a .412 slugging percentage while splitting time at third and short with Schreuer. 
 
Four Rambelles have made appearances tarts on the mound this season with Genesis Armendariz (9-3) and Torrey Hogan (7-1) combining for 22 starts.  Armendariz leads in the circle with a 2.09 ERA and nine victories.  The sophomore has limited opponents to hit .218 while totaling 56 strikeouts.  
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series 38-32 while the Rambelles lead 15-18 for games played in San Angelo.  The Lady Buffs have won six of the last eight matchups including a pair of victories under head coach Michael Mook.  In their final meeting, the Lady Buffs defeated Angelo State 10-0 led by Madison Johnson's grand slam to claim the program's fifth LSC Tournament Title. 
 
A LOOK AT THE LADY BUFFS
The No. 6 Lady Buffs are hitting .355 as a team and have outscored their opponents 136-48 this season, averaging 7.2 runs a game on 10.2 hits with 6.6 RBI.  Three Lady Buffs are hitting over .400 led by Brittni Rufus at .525.  Juniors Diana Murtha and Ruby Salzman follow Rufus at .419 and .400. 
 
Six student-athletes have made appearances in the circle led by freshman Heidi Vortherms and junior Emilee Wilson, combining for 17 starts. Vortherms leads the team with seven victories to go along with a 1.57 ERA with 69 strikeouts which ranks fourth in the league. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Buffs moved to 13-6 on the season after splitting the conference series with No. 15 Lubbock Christian.  WT run-ruled the Lady Chaps 10-1 in the first game before LCU came back to split the series with a 8-6 victory.
 
WT hit .333 against the Lady Chaps led by Madison Johnson and Brittni Rufus who each hit .571 with three runs and four hits while Johnson had a team-high four RBI. Freshman Emma Parrish was credited the victory while Halle Lytal received the loss to each move to 1-1 in the circle. 
 
AROUND THE LONE STAR
UT Tyler moved atop the conference standings with a seven-game win streak to move to 7-1 followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (7-1), Lubbock Christian (5-1), St. Mary's (5-1) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (6-2) rounding out the top five.  WT currently stands 11th in the LSC with a 2-4 conference record. 
 
BOMBS AWAY
Through 19 games, the Lady Buffs have hit 22 homers which is the seventh most in the LSC and are led by newcomer Diana Murtha.  The Summerlin, Nev., native has sent six deep this year followed Madison Johnson (5) and Ruby Salzman (4).  Johnson registered the program's 80th grand slam against Adams State. 
 
LUCKY NUMBER 40
Junior centerfielder Ruby Salzman registered her 40th career home run in the Lady Buffs shutout against UCCS on at the Visit Lubbock Collegiate Classic. The Northridge, Calif. became the sixth player in program history to reach the milestone. 
 
NFCA RANKINGS
UT Tyler stands atop the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Top 25 poll followed by Concordia Irvine, Valdosta State, Indianapolis, Rogers State, WT, Grand Valley State, Augustana, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and Central Oklahoma rounding out the Top 10. 
 
The LSC is represented by four other members in the standings with Lubbock Christian entering at 15th followed by Angelo State (18th), Texas A&M-Commerce (21st) and St Mary's (25th) while Oklahoma Christian is receiving votes. 
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
The UT Tyler Patriots were chosen to defend the regular-season title after picking up 22 of the possible 43 first place votes for a total of 654 points to sit atop the poll followed by the Lady Buffs (16-fpv), Angelo State (1-fpv), Oklahoma Christian (3-fpv), and Texas A&M-Commerce to close out the top five selections. 
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville (1-fpv) ranked sixth followed by Lubbock Christian, Texas A&M International, Cameron, St. Mary's, St. Edward's, Midwestern State, Texas Woman's, UT Permian Basin, Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico rounding out the poll.
