PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Buffs of West Texas A&M had nine All-Americans on Saturday en route to their fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kan.
Benajmin Azamati won his second straight indoor national title as he ran 6.63 in the finals of the 60-meter dash, defeating Tiffin's Malachi Adams by .8-seconds. He picked up 10 points for WT while
Jalen Purcell added one after finishing eighth in the event in 7.25.
Senior
Tyrin Lewis broke his own school record in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles as the Amarillo product crossed the line in 7.75 to place second to grab eight points for the Buffs.
Azamati returned to the track to pick up eight points with a second-place finish in the 200-meters. He ran 21.32 to finish behind Grand Valley State's Brandon Miller while
Jeremiah Lauzon also picked up All-American honors as he finished fifth in 21.53.
Freshman
Hamdi Alamin earned his first collegiate All-American honors with a fourth-place finish in the high jump with a 6-11.0 (2.11m) clearance.
Ohdel James,
Malick Diop,
Jalen Purcell and
Quinton Sansing earned All-American honors in the 4x400-meter relay after the quartet ran a season-best 3:12.10, finishing just .86 behind Academy of the Art in fifth.
The Buffs open the 2022 outdoor season on Friday, March 18, when they host the WT Spring Break Classic in Canyon.
