Lady Buffs Return Home Against Angelo State on Saturday Afternoon

CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs return home following a long road swing as they host the rival Belles of Angelo State in a Lone Star Conference showdown at the First United Bank Center in Canyon with tipoff set for 2:00 p.m.
 
ST. EDWARD'S RECAP
The Lady Buffs finished off a grueling road trip in style on Monday afternoon as Karley Motschenbacher connected on a layup with just over a second remaining in overtime to give WT a 79-77 victory over the St. Edward's Hilltoppers in Lone Star Conference action. Haylei Janssens led the way offensively for the Lady Buffs as she went 7-of-14 from the floor including 3-of-4 from deep and 2-of-5 from the free throw line for a team-high 19 points to go along with three rebounds, one assist and a steal. 
 
A LOOK AT THE BELLES
Angelo State enters the weekend with an overall record of 9-10 including a 6-2 mark in LSC action following four straight victories over then #8 Lubbock Christian (67-63), Eastern New Mexico (78-61), UT Permian Basin (71-55) and Western New Mexico (61-53).
 
Blakely Gerber leads the way offensively for the Belles as the sophomore from Nazareth and a Wayland Baptist transfer has gone 74-of-185 (40%) from the floor including 9-of-67 (13.4%) from deep and 60-of-75 (80%) from the stripe to average 11.4 points per game to go along with 83 rebounds, 36 assists, 20 steals and two blocks. 
 
ASU HEAD COACH ALESHA ELLIS
Alesha Ellis was named the head coach of the ASU women's basketball program on June 4, 2021 following eight seasons at Wayland Baptist where she led the Flying Queens to an overall mark of 189-52 with eight NAIA Tournament appearances. Ellis was a standout prep-player at nearby Plainview High School where she claimed three 3A State Championships followed by a standout collegiate career at Texas Tech, scoring 1,571 career points for the Lady Raiders to rank eighth all-time. She will be inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame later this year.
 
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock was introduced as WT's new head coach on June 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to their only three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history. Over the past four seasons in Portales, he accumulated a record of 77-41 including ENMU's first LSC Championship in program history in 2016-17 where he was named the league's Coach of the Year.

The Lady Buffs are playing their 11th all-time game on February 5rd this Saturday afternoon as they are 9-1 overall on this calendar date with all 10 contest taking place in Canyon. It also marks the third matchup between the Lady Buffs and Belles on this date as WT is 2-0 in those contests.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 251-37 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 87.2%. WT has averaged 1,024 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Defending National Champion Lubbock Christian has been picked atop of the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll announced on October 27th by the league's offices in Richardson, Texas.
 
The Lady Chaps picked up 40 of the possible 44 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 741 points followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (three first place, 674) and West Texas A&M (647. LCU's Allie Schulte was named the league's Preseason Player of the Year. Cameron (590) ranked fourth followed by Midwestern State (560), Texas A&M International (490), St. Mary's (411), Oklahoma Christian (397), St. Edward's (385), Texas A&M-Kingsville (368), Texas Woman's (309), UT Permian Basin (246), Eastern New Mexico (241), UAFS (228), Angelo State (194), UT Tyler (one first place, 132) and Western New Mexico (117).
 
LSC DIGITAL NETWORK
The LSC Digital Network is in its third season showcasing the academic and athletic events of the league and its 18 member institutions. Under the new structure for 2021-22, football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, baseball and softball broadcasts will be available via conference-wide pay-per-view passes.
   
The LSC Digital Network will offer season passes for football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball and softball, giving fans access to all regular-season contests for that sport. In addition, viewers will continue to have the option to purchase a $10 day pass that provides access to all broadcasts aired that day and access to all archived content for 24 hours.

HOME OF CHAMPIONS
West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II. The 2020-21 season saw WT claim seven LSC Regular Season Championships, three LSC Tournament Titles, three Regional Championships, four Top-three track & field finishes, a men's basketball national title game appearance and the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball National Championship.
