CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M closed out the regular season at the First United Bank Center in style on Saturday afternoon as they claimed the program's 18
th Lone Star Conference regular season championship with a 79-58 victory over the Texas A&M International Dustdevils on Senior Day in Canyon in front of 1,500 members of Buff Nation.
Madison Kast led the way for the Lady Buffs in her final home game in Maroon & White as the Visalia, California product went 4-of-6 from the floor including 2-of-3 from deep and a perfect 5-of-5 from the stripe to tie a team-high with 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and a block.
Zamorye Roberts finished the game going 6-of-16 from the floor for 15 points while dishing out three assists.
The Lady Buffs finished the afternoon going 31-of-77 (40.3%) from the field including 8-of-23 (34.8%) from behind the arc and a flawless 9-of-9 from the free throw line to go along with 54 rebounds (19 offensive, 35 defensive), 15 assists, 12 turnovers, six blocks and four steals.
Raiana Brown paced the Dustdevils offense as the sophomore forward went 5-of-17 from the floor including 4-of-6 from the charity stripe for a team-high 14 points to go along with seven rebounds and two assists. TAMIU went 22-of-63 (34.9%) from the field including 7-of-15 (46.7%) from deep and 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the line to go along with 35 rebounds, seven assists, 13 turnovers, one block and nine steals.
The Lady Buffs have claimed an opening round bye and the top seed in next weekend's Lone Star Conference Championship at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas as they will await their Friday quarterfinal opponent following opening round games on Tuesday night at campus host sites around the league.
