CANYON, Texas -- Fresh off a 1-0 win over No. 22 Angelo State, the 16th-ranked West Texas A&M women's soccer team looks to carry the momentum gained into its matchup with Texas Woman's on Saturday. The Pioneers host the Lady Buffs at 1 p.m. at the Pioneer Soccer Park in Denton.

The series between WT and Texas Woman's features 30 meetings between the two schools dating back to 2002. The Lady Buffs have doubled the Pioneers' wins during that time, 18-9, to go along with three draws. The conference foes last met in 2021 with TWU winning 5-4 in a slugfest.

Emily Avila nailed a free kick into the back of the net with 9:36 remaining in the game. The Lady Buffs produced a handful of opportunities in the early minutes, but the Rambelle defense wouldn't budge. Ultimately, one goal proved to be enough as WT walked away with the victory.

SCOUTING TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Pioneers have four goals this season, spread out between four different players. Bri Luna, one of the goal scorers, and Rayne Isias have combined for the two assists this season. In goal, Morgan Sherman accounts for every minute so far. Sherman has converted 51 of the 161 shots faced into saves, allowing 15 goals in 990 minutes.Â

The top five remained the same apart from Central Missouri and Columbus State switching spots at three and four. Dallas Baptist sits atop the poll followed by Embry-Riddle (Fla.). Central Missouri, Columbus State, and West Chester finish the top five.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
James was instrumental in the Lady Buffs' 3-2 win over UT Tyler on Saturday as WT improved to 8-1-1 on the season. The junior placed two of her three shots on goal, including her game-tying strike off a corner kick in the 58th minute. The Trinidadian midfielder found
Maliyah Mendoza in the 66th minute to provide the game-winner on another set piece from the corner.
