LUBBOCK, Texas – West Texas A&M track & field got off to a strong start on the opening day of the Texas Tech Invitational highlighted by top performances from
Tyrin Lewis and the distance-medley-relay team.

Lewis, an Amarillo native, finished second overall in the 60-meter hurdles after running 7.82 to qualify for the finals where he ran 7.79 which ties for the second fastest time in program history.Â

The DMR team of
Butare Rugenerwa,
Quinton Sansing,
Abdelrahim Mahgoub, and
Innocent Murwanashyaka finished second in the fourth fastest time in program history at 10:00.94.  Murwanashyaka anchored the Buffs with a 4:16.08 time in the mile.Â

Jalen Purell and
Desmond Aryee each picked up provisional marks in the 60-meter dash as the each ran set personal bests 6.74, the seventh fastest time in program history.Â

On the women's side,
Laiten Greeson and
Elliot Harrison each registered personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles with Greeson finishing 17
th in the semifinals with a time of 8.81 followed by Harrison in 23
rd at 9.08.Â

Daniela Pesic finished 19
th overall in the long jump.  The sophomore recorded a 18-2.25 (5.54m) jump, which marks the Lady Buffs second best jump this season, while Molliet Kouakou made her debut for the Maroon & White running 8.02 in the 60m dash.

WT returns to action tomorrow for day two of the Texas Tech Invitational at 10 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles of the men's heptathlon while a handful of athletes will compete at the UNM Team open in Albuquerque, N.M.Â
