GAME NOTES
CANYON, Texas – As part of Top 25 Saturday in Canyon, the Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will host No. 17 Dallas Baptist on Sept. 25 at The Pitch. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Saturday's contest will be broadcast on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network with Alex Kypfer on the call. Fans wanting to watch the game can purchase a 24-hour pass for $10 or a season pass for $50.
THE PITCH
The Lady Buffs improved to 3-0-0 on the season and 7-1-0 in the calendar year at The Pitch after a 1-0 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State in their final non-conference game of the season on Sunday, Sept. 19.
WT is 62-29-12 (.660) since the field was opened on Sept. 10, 2010. They have won eight straight at home against Division II competition dating back to Oct. 2019.
A LOOK AT NO. 17 DALLAS BAPTIST
No. 17 DBU opened Lone Star Conference play with a 6-2 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday evening. The Patriots, led by Michelle Lenard, are 5-1-0 on the season and one of two teams from the LSC ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25.
The Patriots own one of the top attacks in the conference as they are scoring 3.2 goals per game. Four different players have scored multiple goals including LSC Preseason Player of the Year, Ashley Merrill. The sophomore from Frisco has found the back of the net four times, three of those coming in the past two matches, after scoring 17 as a true freshman in the spring.
Abigail Olmos has also found the back of the net four times for DBU while chipping in two assists for a team-high 10 points.
The Patriot defense is led by LSC Preseason Co-Defensive Player of the Year Blythe Obar. Another sophomore from Frisco, Obar has started in all six games anchoring a defense that is only allowing a goal per game.
DBU has used three goalkeepers this season Adrianna Schroeder starting the last two games between the pipes. In 245:33 minutes this season, the McKinney native has allowed two goals with 10 saves for a save percentage of .833. She made a season-high four saves against Central Oklahoma and Bridgeport.
THE SERIES
The Lady Buffs are 3-8-1 all-time against DBU dating back to Oct. 15, 2001. Saturday will mark the Patriots first trip to The Pitch since the 2018 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Finial where the Lady Buffs won on penalty kicks following a 0-0 draw.
SCORING FIRST IS ESSENTIAL
With their win over UTPB, WT improved to 60-3-4 (.925) since 2015 when scoring the first goal of the game. They are also 8-36-2 (.195) when the opponent scores first during the same time period.
They also improved to 24-2-1 (.907) when
Hannah Kelley-Lusk finds the back of the net. The senior striker has scored in six straight games dating back to last season's LSC Quarterfinal against Texas A&M-Commerce.
KEEPING A CLEAN SHEET
The Lady Buffs have kept a clean sheet in four straight matches, the fifth-longest streak in program history. It is also their longest such streak since keeping five straight teams scoreless in September 2013.
The Lady Buffs have also been scoring in bunches during their four-game win streak, averaging 4.8 goals per contest.
HOPING TO CONTINUE THE STREAK
Reagan Heelan picked up her fifth win of the season on Wednesday after making one save in 60 minutes of action. The second-year freshman extended her career-best shutout streak to 327 minutes, 40 seconds in the Lady Buffs 20th straight win over the Falcons.
The Kearney, Neb. native leads the conference in save percentage (.955) and ranks third in goals against average (.240).
MOVING UP THE RANKINGS
Kelley-Lusk has an assist in three straight games giving her 17 in her career, moving her up to seventh on the all-time list with teammate
Jessica Diaz.
The Farmington, N.M. native enters Saturday's matchup nine points shy of becoming the third player in program history to reach the 100-point plateau.
FAMILY TIES
Kyndahl Britton's sister, Ryliegh, played for the Patriots of DBU from the 2017-18 appearing in 20 matches including taking a penalty in the 2018 NCAA DII South Central Regional Final.
The younger Britton has made a smooth transition to the collegiate game having started on the back line in all six games.
