No. 19 Lady Buffs Prepare for Top 25 Matchup Against No. 24 Angelo State

CANYON, Texas – The No. 19 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M (14-4, 2-4 LSC) prepare for their third Top-25 matchup this season as they welcome No. 24 Angelo State (11-6, 3-3 LSC) for a conference doubleheader on March 14.  First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Schaeffer Park on Sunday.

SCOUTING NO. 24 ANGELO STATE
Angelo State comes to Canyon with a 11-6 overall record after a two-game series sweep over Eastern New Mexico moving to 3-3 in league play.  The Rambelles outscored the Greyhounds 31-9 under 19th-year head coach Travis Scott.  
 
ASU is batting .293 led by Ashlyn Lerma and Mykayla Stroud at .375 and .367 as they combine for 23 hits and 21 runs.  Five Rambelles have made appearances on the mound for ASU for a team 4.05 ERA.  Genesis Armendariz has made nine starts for ASU allowing 26 runs (23 earned) with 16 walks and 34 strikeouts. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Buffs earned their first victories in conference play on Friday night as they defeated Lubbock Christian 1-0 and 7-3 to move to 14-4 on the season. 
 
A single by Madison Johnson brought home Gabriella Valforte to score the only run for game while Kyra Lair (8-2 ) was credited the victory allowing just three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in game one.  
 
WT used the momentum from game one as they opened scoring with five runs on four hits in third before extending their lead to for a 7-3 final.   Emilee Wilson (4-2) earned the victory allowing three runs on four hits while Lair earned the two-inning save.
 
AROUND THE LONE STAR
Four programs from the Lone Star Conference remain undefeated in league play led by Texas A&M-Kingsville at 6-0 (11-1 overall) followed by Oklahoma Christian (14-2), Texas A&M-Commerce (12-4), and UT Tyler (12-4).  Midwestern State rounds out the top five in the conference standings with at 4-2 with a 11-7 overall record. 
 
RECORD WATCH
Shanna McBroom continues her way up the list in the All-Time career batting records in four categories.  The senior now stands seventh in hits (227), triples (10) and home runs (32), and total bases (370).
 
Ruby Salzman now ties McBroom and Meghan Brown in homeruns with 32 after sending two out against Central Oklahoma.
 
Another sophomore standout moves her way up the Lady Buffs career records as Kyra Lair stands seventh in game starts (47), complete games (22) and strikeouts (185), ninth in appearances (53) and innings pitched (245.2), and eighth in shutouts (four) and wins (30). 
 
NFCA DIVISION II POLL
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M dropped two spots in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top 25 Poll to rank 19th announced by the association on Wednesday morning.   
 
Five programs from the Lone Star Conference stand in the national rankings led by Texas A&M Commerce in third with 361 points after opening league play 4-0 followed by UT Tyler (eighth, 294), Oklahoma Christian (10th, 258), Texas A&M Kingsville (18th, 144), West Texas A&M (19th, 97) and Angelo State (24th, 59).

The Lady Buffs travel south as they head to Laredo, Texas to take on Texas A&M International on March 19 before facing No. 18 Texas A&M-Kingsville on March 21.
