Dominant Pitching Clinches the Weekend Series with #22 Texas A&M-Kingsville

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M dominated on the mound on Saturday afternoon as they allowed a combined three hits on the day to clinch the Lone Star Conference weekend series from the #22 Javelinas of Texas A&M Kingsville at Wilder Park in Canyon.
 
The Buffs and Javelinas conclude their weekend series on Sunday afternoon at Wilder Park with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. in Canyon.

GAME ONE RECAP:
The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the home half of the second inning as they plated six runs on five hits highlighted by RBI from Caleb Flores and Keone Givens followed by a Clay Koelzer two-run bomb to right center at 6-0.
 
WT added to their lead in the fourth as Izaiah Madrid singled up the middle to score Tanner Schuetz followed by a Koelzer two-run single with the bases loaded at 9-0. WT wasn't done yet as Nicholas Dayton single to shortstop to score Koelzer followed by a wild pitch to plate Kyle Moos to make it 11-0.
 
That was plenty of lead for Zach Dixon as the LSC Pitcher of the Year didn't allow a hit until the top of the seventh inning, the senior lefty responded for the win (3-0) as he struck out 10 in the complete game shutout.
 
GAME TWO RECAP:
The nightcap was a classic pitcher's duel as Chandler Dean and Amado Almanzar put on a show, not allowing a run thru the first four and a half innings.
 
Justin Martinez provided the spark offensively as the junior lifted a 1-0 offering to left field in the home half of the fifth for the only run of the ballgame.
 
Dean picked up the win (2-0) in his first start in Maroon & White, allowing just two hits in six innings of the work with three walks and four strikeouts. Carter Brown closed out the seven with three strikeouts for his second save of the season.
