CANYON, Texas – No. 6 West Texas A&M hits the road for a three-game series against Cameron beginning with a doubleheader on Thursday, March 21, followed by a single game on Friday, March 22.
The Lady Buffs are 8-2 in road contests this season including a three-game series sweep over then-No. 1 Angelo State in the second weekend of Lone Star Conference play.
CAMERON
Cameron (19-10, 6-6 LSC) have won five straight games including a doubleheader sweep over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Monday afternoon in Lawton, Okla.
Khmari Edwards is hitting a team-high .388 for the Aggies this season with six doubles and four home runs for 21 RBI for a slugging percentage of .613. The freshman is also a perfect 16-of-16 on stolen base attempts. Brenna Busby has also been impressive at the plate a she is hitting .350 including a team-high eight home runs and 24 RBI while stealing 16 bases. She went 4-of-8 from the plate against NWOSU with a pair of RBIs.
Breley Webb has also played well in 29 starts this season hitting .276 with seven doubles and three home runs for 23 RBI with a .565 slugging percentage. She has recorded a hit in six straight games with four games with two hits.
The Aggies have four different pitchers with 10 at least appearances this season. Bethany Hines has a team-high 17 appearances and 10 starts where she is 8-5 having allowing 38 runs (30 earned) on 75 hits with 17 walks and 57 strikeouts in 68 2/3 innings for an ERA of 3.06. Rylee Willmon is 5-2 in the circle for CU with an ERA of 2.35 allowing 19 runs (17 earned) on 48 hits with 29 strikeouts with opponents hitting .244.
A LOOK INSIDE THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series 33-10 including 8-2 in Lawton, Okla. The Lady Buffs had won seven straight in the series until dropping a 4-3 decision in the NCAA Regional last May.
STAT OF THE DAY
After another impressive weekend at the plate, WT now ranks first in the nation in slugging percentage and scoring. Their 8.84 runs per game are the most in Division II softball while their slugging percentage of .646 also leads the country.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
In 10 road games this season, WT is hitting. 360 with 87 runs on 108 hits with 24 doubles and 15 home runs for 79 RBI while striking out 49 times.
Kourtney Coveney is hitting .600 on the road this season with three doubles and two home runs for seven RBI.
Shayne Starkey has driven in a team-high 13 RBI away from home to go along with two homers.
CRUZ CRUSHED THE LIONS
Brittany Cruz had one of her best weekends of the season against Texas A&M-Commerce where she hit .500 (4-for-8) with one triple and three home runs for seven RBI for a slugging percentage of 1.875. She recorded her first multi home run game of the season in Saturday's thrilling 9-8 win. The junior needs one home run to move into 10th on the all-time career home run lists with teammate

MCBROOM IS STARTING TO HEAT UP
Cruz wasn't the only one to hit three home runs this weekend as junior
Shanna McBroom connected on her first dingers of the season. The Sacshe, Texas native hit her first career grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against TAMUC. She also hit a solo home run earlier in the game as she drove in a career-high five runs.
A LOOK AT THE RANKINGS
The Lady Buffs continued their rise in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Coaches Poll moving up tow spots to sixth.
North Georgia becomes the sixth different team to earn the No. 1 ranks as the Nighthawks received 11 first-place votes and 393 points. Central Oklahoma moved up to second after receiving five first-place votes with West Florida in third followed by Chico State and Southern Arkansas. WT sits sixth with 315 points with Concordia Irvine in seventh and Grand Valley State sits eighth with Carson-Newman and Alabama Huntsville rounding out Top 10. The South Central Region is represented by WT (6th), Texas A&M-Kingsville (11th), Texas A&M-Commerce (14th), Colorado Mesa (18th) and Angelo State (24th).
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
With their series win over TAMUC, WT remained in first place in the Lone Star Conference standings holding a one-game advantage over Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Lady Buffs are 13-2 in conference play while the Javelinas sit 9-3 after not playing last weekend. TAMUC sits third at 10-5 followed by Angelo State, Tarleton and Cameron.

WT hosts its second Top 15 matchup in three weeks when No. 11 Texas A&M-Kingsville comes to town on March 29-30 for a three-game series at Schaeffer Park.
