Lady Buffs Face No. 13 Dallas Baptist on Saturday

CANYON, Texas –
 West Texas A&M will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon against No. 13 Dallas Baptist in a rematch of last season's NCAA Division II South Central Regional Final. Kickoff is set for Noon at Patriot Soccer Field.
 
LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK
The Lady Buffs enters Saturday's looking for their first road win since defeating CSU-Pueblo 2-0 in the season opener.
 
WT was shutout for the third time this season in their 1-0 loss to Texas Woman's on Thursday. They finished the game with 11 shots including a missed penalty in the 62nd minute which would have tied it at 1-all. 
 
A LOOK AT NO. 13 DALLAS BAPTIST
Dallas Baptist enters Saturday's matchup 8-0-1 overall and 5-0-0 in Lone Star Conference after a 4-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico on Thursday evening. The Patriots have won eight straight and are ranked 13th in the latest United Soccer Coaches (USC) Division II Coaches Top 25.
 
The Patriots have outscored opponents 27-8 through nine matches led by junior Kaci Parks. The Plano, Texas native has scored a team-high five goals including a brace against ENMU on Thursday. She has also dished out a team-high three assists for a total of 13 points. Delany Schmidt and Jenna Patterson have each scored four goals apiece. 
 
Hope Koym has been the featured goalie for the Patriots as the senior has recorded four shutouts, including three straight. The Odessa, Texas native has made 29 saves while allowing eight goals in 813:51 minutes of action. Mia Klonek made her collegiate debut against UT Permian Basin. 
 
Michelle Lenard is in her 11th season as the head coach of the Patriots where has an overall record of 148-67-15. She has guided the Patriots to the postseason six times, including a South Central Regional title in 2015. 
 
THE SERIES
DBU leads the all-time series 5-3-1 including 1-4-0 games played at Patriot Soccer Field. Last season, the two teams played to a 0-0 draw in Canyon ending a five-game losing streak by the Lady Buffs. 
 
THE LAST TIME AGAINST DALLAS BAPTIST
The two teams met on Nov. 16, 2018 in the NCAA DII South Central Regional Final in Canyon, Texas where they played to a scoreless draw that ended in penalty kicks. 
 
Emily Avila had the Lady Buffs best chance of the first half in the 45th minute from a free kick from the top of the 18-yard box. The shot was on-target but was deflected off the line by a Patriot defender.
 
Courtney Dippel came up with two huge saves in the second half to deny DBU's Kensley Martin and send the game into overtime. WT's all-time saves leader came up huge in penalty kicks making three saves before Marlene van Mourik nailed the winner in the seventh round.  
 
LOOKING TO END THE DROUGHT
Since Ashley Silvestre's goal in the 56th minute in the season opener against CSUP, the Lady Buffs have gone 304:14 without scoring goal on the road. It is their longest such streak since 2014 when they opened the season with three straight 2-0 defeats on the road. 
 
STRUGGLING FROM THE SPOT
The Lady Buffs have failed to convert on four of their last five penalties dating back to last year's 2-0 win over UT Permian Basin. Mackenzie Taylor is the only Lady Buff to convert during that time. 
 
NEEDING TO STRIKE EARLY
The Lady Buffs are 4-1-0 in 2019 and 24-1-2 since October 2017 when scoring the first goal. Before dropping a 2-1 decision to Adams State in the home opener, WT were unbated in 23 straight games when finding the back of the net first. 
 
RECORD WATCH
With two shots on Thursday, Marlene van Mourik moved into fifth in career shots with 138. During her four-year career, the Hovborg, Denmark native has scored 11 goals and 13 assists (10th most in program history). 
 
On the same topic, Hannah Kelley-Lusk moved up to eighth in career shots passing Miriam Dominguez (2006-09). The junior has registered a team-high 30 shots through eighth starts resulting in four goals. 
 
Cheyenne Orozco moved into the Top 10 in career minutes played with 4,812. The junior has made started in 54 matches during her career where she has played the full 90 minutes in all but one match. 
 
6 WINS AWAY FROM THE CENTURY MARK
With their 2-0 victory over UT Tyler on Saturday, 10th year head coach Chad Webb improved to 94-74-20. The former WT standout is six wins away becoming the second coach in program history to reach the 100-win plateau. The Lubbock, Texas native has led WT to four consecutive 10-plus win seasons including back-to-back NCAA appearances. 
 
AROUND THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
DBU and St. Edward's remained undefeated in LSC play with convincing wins over Eastern New Mexico and UT Permian Basin. Texas A&M-Commerce picked up a 2-1 victory over UT Tyler while Oklahoma Christian defeated Texas A&M International by the same scoreline. Angelo State needed a golden goal to defeat Lubbock Christian.
