CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M women's golf is ranked ninth in the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division II Coaches' Preseason Poll released on Tuesday morning. The Lady Buffs are one of four schools not located in the state of Florida ranked in the Top-10.
Defending National Champions University of Indianapolis received 12 of the 15 first-place votes for 370 total points. Nova Southeastern garnered one first-place vote for 351 points while the Patriots of Dallas Baptist received two first-place votes for 348 points. Barry sits fourth with 340 points followed by Florida Southern (289 pts.), Lynn University (274 pts.) and Rollins (268 pts.). The Lady Buffs are ninth (224 pts.) with Grand Valley State rounding out the Top-10 with 209 points.
Defending Lone Star Conference Individual Champion Jelina Fernando is one of four players back from last year's Lady Buffs team that finished seventh at the NCAA Division II Championships at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas after a runner-up finish at the NCAA Super Region IV. She is joined by fellow junior Holly Winter, who finished for a tie for first place at the regional in Durango, Colo., along with fellow upperclassmen Kaylin Milholland and Loukyee Songprasert.
The Lady Buffs open their 2018-19 season on Sept. 10-11 at the CSU-Monterey Bay Lady Otter Invitational in Salinas, Calif.
