HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):

  • In the bottom of the second of the opener, senior Nick Cana reached on a miscue by the Adams State left fielder and advanced all the way to third.
  • Junior Nick Guaragna singled to left, plating Canas for a 1-0 lead.
  • A hit batsman and double steal put runners at second and third and a wild pitch put WT up 2-0.
  • In the third, the Buffs plated three more runs as senior Jimmy Cubillos singled to left to begin the inning, followed by a walk and a fielder's choice moving the runners to second and third.
  • Canas tallied a hit in his eighth-straight game with infield single and a 3-0 lead.
  • A two run error on Adams State made the score 5-0.
  • WT junior pitcher Joe Corbett had a no-hitter into the fifth as he fanned a career-high 13 going the distance for the win, allowing three hits in the final three innings.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 1):

  • The Buffs had just three hits in the game, but made the most of them as all three players who had hits also scored and drove in a run.
  • Canas went 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a RBI.
  • Corbett (3-0) allowed three hits in seven innings for the first complete game shutout of the season for the Buffs as he walked two and fanned 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):

  • In the nightcap, it was a pitchers' duel as the teams combined for eight hits as the Buffs tossed the second combined one-hitter of the year in the win.
  • The Buffs had two hits in the first inning, but were unable to bring anyone home as the starting pitchers for both teams stymied both offenses through the first 5.1 innings as WT tallied five hits off Andrew Shaw and Adams State had one hit off WT junior Zach Dixon who earned his first win as a Buff.
  • WT had another good chance in the fifth, loading the bases with one out, but a line out and a double play ended the threat.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, a single by senior Nelson Paredes began the inning, followed by a sacrifice bunt from junior Justice Nakagawa moving Paredes to second.Bryan then belted his first home run – a two run shot for the 2-0 lead.
