GAME NOTES
CANYON, Texas – In the midst of a four-game road trip, the #15 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will travel to UT Permian Basin and Angelo State this weekend. Winners of their last nine games, WT will face UTBP on Friday in Odessa followed by a trip to San Angelo for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Rambelles.
UT PERMIAN BASIN
The Falcons enter the week 1-8-0 overall and 0-4-0 in Lone Star Conference play. Fifth-year head coach Lindsey Garcia has her team playing competitive soccer with her team coming close to drawing with Texas Woman's last week.
Lea Walenta has scored two of UTPB's five goals this season including a strike against Texas Woman's on Sunday afternoon. She opened her collegiate scoring account against Texas A&M International on September 2. Lauren Marenco has a team-high two assists, both coming against TAMIU in the second game of the season.
Chenoa Crites has played and started in all nine games this season in goal. The Albuquerque, N.M. native ranks first in the Lone Star Conference with 66 saves including a pair of games with 10-plus saves.
THE SERIES
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series 16-0-0 including 8-0-0 on the road. Last season, WT won 4-0 in the game in Odessa with Noir Hawah recording the Lady Buffs first hat trick in more than six years. Goals have been hard to come by for the Falcons having been shutout in the past seven matches.
ANGELO STATE
Travis McCorkle has his team sitting in second place in the Lone Star Conference with a record of 3-0-1 and 5-4-1 overall. The Rambelles have outscored opponents 20-15 on 16.0 shots per game.
Last season's D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year, Trenadey Scott, once again leads ASU with seven goals and one assists. Cassandra Moosburger has been equally impressive with five goals and two assists. Avery McNeme has been in the midfield with a team-high five assists.
Kira Miller has been tasked with replacing Sammy Cude who left this past year for the University of Houston. Miller has started in all 10 matches making 59 saves while only allowing 15 goals.
THE SERIES
WT enters Sunday's contest on a two-game win streak over the Rambelles and lead the all-time series 19-14-6. The Lady Buffs defeated ASU 1-0 in last year's LSC Championship followed by another 1-0 decision in favor of WT in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
ÂWT MOVES UP SIX SPOTS TO 15TH IN NATIONAL POLL
For the third straight week, WT was ranked in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll moving up six spots to 15th. The six spots was the second-largest improvement behind Franklin Pierce's move from 19th to 9th.
The Lady Buffs also moved up one spot to second in the USC Regional Rankings. Colorado School of Mines ranks first followed by WT with Colorado-Colorado Springs, Westminster and Metro State rounding out the top five.
A LOOK AT THE STREAK
After dropping the season-opener to Colorado State-Pueblo, WT has rolled off nine straight victories outscoring opponents 25-4. A win on Friday against UT Permian Basin would give the Lady Buffs their third win streak of 10-plus games since winning 13 straight in 2002.
RECORDS ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN
It is just a matter of time until Courtney Dippel becomes the program's all-time leader in saves. The Belton, Texas native enters the weekend's game four saves short of breaking Yvette Bedoy's record of 306 set back in 2013. She also ranks second in shutouts (21) and wins (35).
WE TALKING ABOUT STATS
Cheyenne Orozco has played in all 900 minutes for WT this season. For her short two-year career, the centre back has started in 33 games logging 3,037 minutes.
Four of Khaline Jacob's nine goals have been assisted by Hannah Kelley-Lusk. The duo has caused opponents trouble in the back having combined to score 14 goals and six assists.
Jacob has scored a Lone Star Conference leading nine goals which ranks her ninth nationally. She is also scoring a goal per game which is the 15th most in Division II.
Courtney Dippel's .887 save percentage is the 11th best in the nation. She also ranks 38th in goals against average.
WT HEAD COACH CHAD WEBB
WT head coach Chad Webb, a two-time LSC Coach of the Year, is now in his ninth season at the helm of the Lady Buffs. He is 84-67-17 overall during his time in Canyon. He has led WT to a pair of NCAA appearances during his tenure.
