CANYON, Texas – The #12 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit the road this weekend as they renew one of the best rivalries in Division II Softball with the #2 Belles of Angelo State in a Lone Star Conference series starting on Friday at 7 p.m.

ANGELO STATE
The #2 Belles enter the weekend with an overall record of 28-1 with a 9-0 mark in LSC play as they have set a new program record for consecutive victories with 24 following a doubleader sweet of Oklahoma Christian.

Angelo State is guided by 13th year head coach Travis Scott who has led Angelo State to four NCAA Division II South Central Region Titles and made four trips to the NCAA D-II National Championships, bringing home the national title in 2004. Scott guided ASU to five LSC Conference Championships and six LSC South Division titles in the last 12 years.

The Belles are led offensively by Courtney Barnhill who is hitting .476 with eight doubles and eight homeruns to drive in 30 RBI on the season. In the circle, ASU is guided by NFCA National Pitcher of the Week Brandy Marlett who is 13-1 overall with a 1.51 ERA with eight complete games and three shutouts in 88.0 innings with 127 K's.

ASU is hitting .347 as a team to go along with 47 doubles, six triple, 38 homeruns and 200 RBI for a team slugging percentage of .577 with 23 combined errors for a fielding clip of .971. In the circle, the Belles have a 1.59 combined ERA with 16 complete games and 202 strikeouts in 189.0 innings with an opposing batting average of .179.

THE SERIES vs. ASU
WT and Angelo State will renew one of the best rivalries in Division II Softball this weekend in San Angelo. ASU holds a 26-24 advantage in the all-time series with the Lady Buffs taking the last six meetings between the two teams. WT is 7-14 all-time in San Angelo as they won three-of-four during their last trip in 2015.

NFCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (MAR. 15)
National Runner-Up Humboldt State picked up 15 of the possible 16 first place votes for a total of 399 points followed by Angelo State (1 first place, 367), North Georgia (363), Southern Arkansas (347), Lenoir-Rhyne (320), Valdosta State (313), Chico State (303), St. Mary's (300), Central Oklahoma (255) and Southern Indiana (249) to round out the top ten.

WT SOFTBALL IN THE NFCA TOP-25 POLL
The Lady Buffs have been ranked inside of the NFCA DIvision II Top-25 Poll for 47 straight weeks. The Lady Buffs have been ranked in the Top-5 in 39 polls since the start of the 2014 season while sitting atop of the poll an incredible 29 times.

LSC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
HITTER
Courtney Barnhill, Angelo State
Barnhill led the Belles to a perfect 7-0 record last week. She recorded 12 hits, three doubles and one home run in victories over No. 3 St. Mary's, Eastern New Mexico and No. 20 Lubbock Christian. She scored eight runs and drove in a team-high seven RBIs and six walks. The Lubbock native lead ASU with a .947 slugging percentage and a .731 on-base percentage.

PITCHER
Brandy Marlett, Angelo State
Marlett had a career week setting the Angelo State record for strikeouts in a game. The junior struck out a career high and ASU record 17 in a 5-4 win over ENMU, which is the fourth most in NCAA Division II this season. The Henderson, Nevada native was a perfect 4-0 in four appearances and threw three complete games and two shutouts. She struck out 42 batters in 24.0 innings pitched and only gave up two earned runs. She held opponents such as No. 3 St. Mary's and No. 20 LCU to just 13 hits.

HOME SWEET HOME
The Lady Buffs have turned Schaeffer Park in Canyon into one of the top home environments in all of NCAA Division II Softball. WT is 188-28 (.8670) at Schaeffer Park since the facility opened prior to the 2011 season including 77-13 (.856) during regular season Lone Star Conference games in Canyon. 2016 marked the fifth time in the last six years ('11, '13, '14, '15, '16) that the Lady Buffs hosted NCAA Postseason action.

#PLAYFORTHEPANHANDLE
The West Texas A&M Athletic Department was honored to join with the WT Agriculture Department as the Buffs and Lady Buffs #PlayForThePanhandle this past weekend at Wilder Park and Schaeffer Park to collect donations and supplies for those affected by the ongoing tragic wildfires in the Texas Panhandle.

NATIONALLY SPEAKING
Entering the week, the Lady Buffs led all of Division II Softball in slugging percentage (.713) while ranking second in doubles per game (2.38) and third in batting average (.394), home runs per game (1.77), on-bae percentage (.488) and scoring (8.88).

2016 IN-REVIEW
The Lady Buffs continued their dominance in 2016 as
Kevin Blaskowski led the program to their third straight and fourth overall Lone Star Conference Championship as they finished the season 59-5 with a 30-2 mark in LSC play. WT made national news during the 2016 season as they went on the longest win streak in South Central Region history, winning their first 30 games. WT claimed their second South Central Regional Championship in 2016, coming from the loser's bracket to top Colorado Mesa twice on Championship Sunday followed by a Super Regional sweep of St. Mary's to advance to the program's second College World Series as WT finished the season ranked fifth in the nation.

THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
Entering the week, LSC softball teams were 161-130 overall this season. In the NCAA South Central Region, the group is currently 37-27 combined versus Heartland teams and 17-9 against the RMAC.
