Buffs Battle #11 Colorado School of Mines for the South Central Regional Title on Tuesday Night

CANYON, Texas –
The third seeded Buffaloes of West Texas A&M will look to continue their season on Tuesday night as they take on the top seed and host #11 Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines in the South Central Regional Finals with tipoff set for 8 p.m. CT at Lockridge Arena in Golden, Colorado.
 
COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES
The Orediggers are guided by 16th year head coach Pryor Orser who has led CSM to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with 13-consecutive winning seasons and four RMAC Coach of the Year honors. The 2016-17 squad has registered 29 wins to tie a school record (2011-12).
 
#11 Colorado School of Mines enters Tuesday on a 12-game win streak with an overall record of 29-4 as they claimed the RMAC Regular Season and Tournament Titles with a league mark of 19-3. CSM rolled past RMAC foe #15 Fort Lewis on Sunday night in the Semis, 86-67 to advance to their second Sweet 16 in school history. The Orediggers are 17-1 inside of Lockridge Arena this season, winning their last 17 games at home.
 
The Orediggers are led offensively by 1st Team D2CCA All-Region selection Gokul Nateson who has gone 176-of-406 (43.3%) from the floor this season including 80-of-214 (37.4%) from deep and 189-fo-226 (83.6%) from the free throw line to score 18.8 points per contest followed by Luke Schroepfer (14.4) and Caleb Waitsman (10.9) in double-figures. CSM has gone 919-of-1893 (48.5%) from the field this season including 264-of-636 (41.5%) from deep and 576-of-765 (75.3%) from the free throw line while averaging 36.5 (+5.8) rebounds and 81.2 (+14.1) points per game so far this season.
 
THE SERIES vs. COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES
The Buffs lead the all-time series against the Orediggers, 7-1 with Colorado School of Mines taking the last meeting between the two teams back on Nov. 21, 2003 in Golden. Tuesday will mark the first ever meeting between the two teams in the NCAA Postseason.
 
WT IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The Buffs (26-8) enter the tournament for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign as third year head coach Tom Brown has led the Buffs to back-to-back 20 win seasons and three straight appearances in the LSC Championships. WT has claimed the most wins (26) since the 1991-92 campaign while finishing a perfect 15-0 inside of the First United Bank Center this season. It will mark the 14th overall appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament for the Buffs since 1986-87 as they have gone 7-15 (.318) overall in the postseason with a run to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 1997-98.

Third-seeded West Texas A&M used a blistering first half on both ends of the court in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship, posting a 76-64 victory over seventh-seeded Texas A&M-Kingsville Sunday evening at Lockridge Arena
 
The Buffs went 21-of-48 (43.8%) from the floor in the game including 8-of-21 (38.1%) from deep and 26-of-34 (76.5%) from the free throw line with 41 rebounds (11 offensive, 30 defensive), 14 assists, 14 turnovers, five blocks and eight steals. WT was led offensively by Chavlovich who went 4-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-8 from deep with 18 points followed by Quaid with 12 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
 
LAST MEETING WITH CSM (NOV. 21, 2003)
The Buffs took a 12-point lead into the locker room for half but the Orediggers went on a 24-12 run in the second half to take a 89-75 victory over WT during the CSM Classic in Golden, Colorado.
 
The Buffs' starters were outscored, 75-45, by the Orediggers' starting five. CSM had three players with a team-high 19 points: Luedkte, Wagstaff and Stephen Bahl, and Davey Iverson added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Buffs got 16 points from junior guard Carl Lamb, but they were all in the first half. Junior forward Richard Higginbotham posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
 
NABC DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (MAR. 7)
Northwest Missouri State picked up 14 of the possible 16 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 398 points followed by Bellarmine (1 first place, 379), Fairmont State (349), Hawai'i Pacific (1 first place, 345), Kentucky Wesleyan (335), Queens, N.C. (316), West Liberty (299), Indiana, Pa. (286), Shippensburg (265) and Kutztown (261) to round out the top ten.
 
The South Central Region was represented by Colorado School of Mines (11th), UT Permian Basin (17th), Fort Lewis (23rd) and Tarleton State (RV).

D2CCA 1st TEAM ALL-SOUTH CENTRAL REGION
David Chavlovich added another honor to his already impressive resume on Monday afternoon as the Arlington native was named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association All-South Central Regions 1st Team for the second straight season. Chavlovich has set new single-season school records in points scored (655) while holding the WT career mark for points (1,752), field goal attempts (1,366), 3-pt field goals made (296) and 3-pt field goal attempts (800).
 
THE ROAD TO SIOUX FALLS
The 64-team field for the 2017 NCAA DII Men's Basketball Championship will begin the Road to Sioux Falls this weekend as Regional Tournament takes place on March 11-14 with the top seed in each of the eight regions across the country hosting the single-elimination event. The 2016 NCAA Division II Elite Eight will take place in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on March 22-25 at the Sanford Pentagon.
