Lady Buffs Host Eastern New Mexico for Senior Night Wednesday

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M women's soccer team returns home for Senior Night 2017 as the Lady Buffs host Eastern New Mexico Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the final regular season home game at The Pitch. 

 

The Lady Buffs have two seniors as Sydney Hickerson and Lucy Chalgren will be playing their final regular season home game Wednesday against the Greyhounds.  They will be honored in a short ceremony prior to the game.

WT is coming off three-straight losses, which is the longest skid of the season.  The Lady Buffs are 6-6-4 on the year and 4-3-3 in Lone Star Conference, while currently sitting fourth in the league standings with two games to play.  The Lady Buffs play at Midwestern State on Sunday in the regular season finale at 1 p.m. in Wichita Falls.

 

If the season were to end today, WT would host Eastern New Mexico a week from tomorrow in the first round of the 2017 Lone Star Conference Championship with the winner advancing to the semifinals at the regular season champion for a Friday match.  Game time for the first round matchup would be 7 p.m. at The Pitch.  Check back with www.gobuffsgo.com following Sunday's regular season finale for a complete bracket to the 2017 LSC Women's Soccer Championship.

 

The Lady Buffs lost 3-2 in overtime on Sunday at Texas Woman's as WT battled back from a 2-0 deficit early and force the extra time.  Just over three minutes into overtime, TWU scored on the first goal of the season by Lucero Chavez and an assist from Jazmine Navarro for the winner.  Prior to that, WT dropped a 3-1 decision at Texas A&M-Commerce last Friday evening after opening the game with the first goal and lost a heartbreaker on Oct. 15 at home to league-leading Angelo State with a goal in the 88th minute in a battle for first place in the league standings at that point.

 

WT and Eastern New Mexico played to a scoreless draw in Portales, N.M., on Oct. 4, as WT outshot the Greyhounds 9-4 and 5-2 in shots on goal, but were unable to get the breakthrough score.  In the game, Redshirt freshman Hannah Kelley had two shots on goal to lead the team, while junior Khadidra Debesette also had two shots with one on frame.  Both goalkeepers, WT junior Courtney Dippel and Alejandra Camarillo were up to the task to preserve a clean sheet.  Dippel had two saves in the game, while Camarillo had five.

 

For the season, WT is led by freshman Noir Hawash who leads the team with four goals, three assists and 11 points.  She has 20 shots (.200) with eight on frame (.400) and is 1-1 in penalty kicks to lead the team.  Sophomore Marlene van Mourik is second in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists.  She has a team-high 53 shots (.057) with 29 on goal (.547) and one game winner.  Four different Lady Buffs have five points each with two goals and an assist.  Freshman Jessica Diaz leads the team with two game winners this season and she has four points on a pair of goals.  

 

As a team, the Lady Buffs have scored 21 goals and allowed 21 goals on the year as the team has 16 assists for 58 points, while the opposition has 20 assists for 62 points.  WT has 222 shots for a .095 average, has 109 shots on goal for a .491 clip, while recording six game winners and is 1-1 in penalty kicks.  WT has 66 corner kicks for the year and has allowed 50 set pieces, while scoring 11 goals in the first half and ten in the second. 

 

In goal, Dippel leads the way with a 6-6-4 record in 16 starts as she has logged 1473:16 minutes.  Dippel has allowed 20 goals for a 1.22 goals against average with 62 saves (.756) and has five shutouts with a combined shutout, while facing 173 shots.  Freshman Syneca Pyszko has played in two games for 50:45 minutes, allowing one goal and recording three saves with a combined shutout and faced seven shots.

 

WT leads the all-time series with ENMU 14-6-2 and has gone 4-0-1 in the last five meetings.  WT is 8-1-1 against ENMU in Canyon, while WT head coach Chad Webb is 9-4-2 all-time against ENMU.

 

The Greyhounds are 3-8-5 overall and 2-5-3 in Lone Star Conference play and are coming off a 2-1 loss at Texas A&M-Commerce after a 1-1 tie at Texas Woman's last week.  ENMU is 1-4-3 in its last eight games after starting the season 2-4-2.  Following the WT tie, ENMU tied Midwestern State four days later, 0-0.  ENMU has scored just three goals in its last eight games. 

 

ENMU is led by Ariel Lopez, who leads the team with five goals, three assists and 13 points.  She has 39 shots, with 20 on frame and is 1-1 in penalty kicks.  Mikra Zamarripa is second in points with five on two goals and one assist, while Jaci Sievers has two goals for four points.  Zamarripa lead the team with two game winners on the season.

 

As a team, the Greyhounds have scored 15 goals with nine assists for 39 points.  They have 165 shots (.091) with 90 on goal (.545) and have three game winners, while going 1-1 in penalty kicks.  The opposition has scored 24 goals with 16 assists and 64 points.  The opponents have 177 shots (.136) with 90 on goal (.508), eight game winners and 3-3 in penalty kicks.  ENMU has 52 corner kicks for the year and allowed 83. 

 

In goal, Camarillo has logged all 1565:34 minutes this season, allowing 24 goals for a 1.38 goals against average, with 62 saves (.721) and a 3-8-5 record, along with four shutouts.
