#2 Lady Buffs Stay Atop of the LSC Standings with a Pair of Wins at Texas A&M-Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The #2 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M remained atop of the Lone Star Conference standings with a pair of wins on Friday night at Hubert Field in Kingsville, Texas as they rolled past the Javelinas in a doubleheader sweep. The Lady Buffs improve to 38-2 (20-2 LSC) while Texas A&M-Kingsville falls to 15-22 (6-12 LSC) on the season.
 
The Lady Buffs and Javelinas wrap-up their LSC series tomorrow afternoon in Kingsville with first pitch set for 2 p.m. at Hubert Field.
 
GAME #1
The Lady Buffs broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning as senior Lacey Taylor doubled to center field with two outs to drive in Stacey Ramirez and Brittany Cruz to give WT the 2-0 lead. Brittany Gehle added to the lead in the top of the fifth inning with an infield single followed by a Taylor RBI single before Kylee Moore and Kourtney Coveney drew walks with the bases loaded to run the lead to 6-0.
 
The Javelins responded in the home half of the sixth with a Roxy Chapa two-run double to the left center field gap before Kilee Halbert forced a groudout to the circle to end the frame at 6-2. Kingsville wouldn't go down without a fight as they put runners on first and second with no outs to bring the LSC's save leader Tori Bayer into the game, the senior finished off the game to pick up her seventh save of the season as the Lady Buffs moved to 39-2. Halbert picked up the win (15-2) for the Lady Buffs, giving up three runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in her 6.0 innings of work while Bayer grabbed her seventh save of the season, allowing no runs on one hit with no walks and a strikeout in the final inning of relief.
 
GAME #2
WT wasted no time in the nightcap as Taylor walked with the bases loaded to drive in a run followed by RBI singles from Ashley Hardin and Andrea Sitter to run the WT lead to 3-0. Kingsville responded in the home half of the frame as Rachael Longoria registered an infield single to score Laren Oatman to cut the lead to 3-1.
 
The Lady Buffs answered in the top of the second inning with a Brittany Gehle RBI single to right field to score Cruz to run the lead to 4-1. WT added to their lead in the top of the fifth with a Coveney single thru the left side to score Taylor to make it 5-1. Kingsville responed with a solo homerun in the bottom of the third inning before WT scored three runs in the fourth with a Hardin two-run double to left field and a Sitter RBI single to center to run the WT lead to 8-2. The Lady Buffs closed out the scoring in the top of the seventh as Shea Ibrahim doubled down the right field line to score Stacey Ramirez followed later in the frame by a Hardin walk with the bases loaded to stretch the lead to 10-2.
 
Alexis Alfonso picked up the win (8-0) for the Lady Buffs, giving up two runs on seven hits with five walks and four strikeouts in the complete game victory.
