Top Ranked Lady Buffs Remain Atop of the LSC Standings with a Series Win over Cameron

CANYON, Texas – The top ranked Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M clinches their weekend Lone Star Conference series with Cameron in Saturday's opener before falling in the finale to snap a 22 game home win streak in front of over 450 fans at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas. The Lady Buffs move to 36-2 (18-2 LSC) on the season while Cameron moves to 25-12 (10-6 LSC).
 
The Lady Buffs return to Lone Star Conference action next weekend as they hit the road for a four-game league series in Kingsville, Texas starting on Friday at 5 p.m. against the Javelinas at Hubert Field. The Javelinas enter the week with an overall record of 14-19 with a 6-10 mark in LSC play following a sweep of Eastern New Mexico in Portales.
 
GAME #1
The Lady Buffs continued their hot streak at the plate in the home half of the first inning as Shea Ibrahim laced an RBI double to the left center field gap to score Brittany Gehle followed by a pair of illegal pitches to score Ibrahim from third for the 2-0 lead. The Aggies responded in the top of the third inning as they capitalized on a WT error with a pair of groundouts to score two runs to tie the game at 2-2. WT capitalized on another illegal pitch in the third to score Gehle from third with two outs to run the score to 3-2.
 
WT wasn't done yet as they added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Brittany Cruz RBI triple off of the center field wall to score Shayne Starkey from second base to run the WT lead to 4-2 heading into the fifth inning. Cameron responded in the top of the fifth inning as Annie Combs connected on a solo shot on top of the batting cages past the left field fence with two outs to cut the WT lead to 4-3.
 
The Lady Buffs added to their lead in the home half of the fifth as Starkey singled thru the left side with the bases loaded and one out to drive in a run followed by a bases clearing double to the left center field alley by Kourtney Coveney to stretch the WT lead to 8-3. The WT defense kept the lead at five in the top of the sixth inning as the Aggies lined into an inning-ending double play as Gehle snagged a liner and tossed to Starkey at 8-3.
 
Kilee Halbert picked up the win (14-1) for the Lady Buffs, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in her 6.1 innings of work while Tori Bayer finished off the last two outs with K's.
 
GAME #2
The Aggies took the early lead in the finale as they used a Paige Daino RBI single to right center field with two outs followed by a three-run homerun by Combs on top of the batting cages in left field followed later in the inning with a Chelsea DeLong two-run shot to left center to make it 6-0. The Lady Buffs responded in the bottom of the frame as Lacey Taylor laced a double off of the left field wall to score Ibrahim with two outs to cut the lead to 6-1. Cameron added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning with a Sonora Zukerman solo blast to left center with one out to run the lead to 7-1.
 
The Lady Buffs responded in the home half of the fourth inning with a Starkey RBI double down the right field line followed by RBI singles from Coveney and Cruz, Ramirez reached on an infield single to load the bases with one out before the Aggies forced a popup in foul territory and a groundout to end the frame with Cameron leading 7-4. WT wouldn't go down without a fight as Ibrahim blasted a two-run shot to right field in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 9-6. Chelsea Skipper picked up the loss (5-1) for the Lady Buffs, giving up six runs on four hits with two walks in her 0.2 innings of work.
