Taylor’s Walkoff Bomb Caps a Six Run Comeback by #22 WT Against #2 Dixie State, 7-6

ST. GEORGE, Utah – West Texas A&M fell behind six runs thru two and a half innings of play before an incredible effort in the circle by senior Tori Bayer and a walkoff solo bomb to right field by fellow senior Lacey Taylor as the #22 Lady Buffs outlasted the #2 Red Storm of Dixie State, 7-6 in front of over 500 fans at Karl Brooks Field in St. George, Utah. The Lady Buffs remain unbeaten as they move to 3-0 on the season while the National Runner-Up Red Storm fall to 0-2.

The Red Storm came out swinging as they took advantage of two early walks and a single followed by an Autumn Woodfall two run single, Dixie walked again followed by another two run single by Mallory Paulson to give the Red Storm the early 4-0 lead. Dixie added to their lead in the top of the third inning as Brooklyn Beardshear singled to score a run followed by an Arista Honey RBI single later in the frame for the 6-0 advantage.

WT cut into the lead as Brittany Gehle singled to the circle to score Andrea Sitter from third base followed by a Shea Ibrahim RBI double down the right field line to make it 6-3, Taylor registered her first RBI of the game with an RBI double to the left center field gap to cut the lead to 6-4. Bayer continued to work in the circle in relief as she stranded a runner in the top of the fourth before the Lady Buffs went three-up and three-down in the home half at 6-4.

Bayer kept the Red Storm off of the scoreboard in the top of the fifth followed by a two run home half by the Lady Buffs as Ibrahim registered her first career homerun in Maroon & White with a solo bomb the other way to left center followed later in the inning by a Shayne Starkey RBI fielder's choice to cut the lead to 6-6. The two teams traded scoreless innings as they went into extras before the Lady Buffs ended the game in the home half of the ninth with a Taylor walkoff solo bomb over the scoreboard in right field for a 7-6 win.

The Lady Buffs return to action tonight at Karl Brooks Field as they take on #13 Humboldt State with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. CT or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the HSU/Fort Lewis matchup.
