CANYON, Texas – The #22 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M hit the road for the first time in over three weeks on Saturday night as they head to Las Vegas, New Mexico to take to the Cowboys of New Mexico Highlands with tipoff set for 8 p.m. at the John A. Wilson Complex in a South Central Regional matchup.

NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS
The Cowboys are led by third year head coach Craig Snow who has coached four All-RMAC and one All-Region selection during his time in Las Vegas. Prior to NMHU, Snow spent three seasons at the University of New Mexico.

NMHU enters the weekend with an overall record of 2-5 with an 0-3 mark in RMAC action following a 87-67 loss to CSU-Pueblo on Tuesday night in Las Vegas. The Cowboys face off with Westminster College in RMAC action on Friday night.

The Cowboys are led by Kieran Woods who has gone 35-of-65 from the floor and 23-of-37 from the free throw line to average 15.7 points per game followed by Marlon Johnson with 14.7. NMHU has gone 175-of-430 (40.7%) from the field this season including 33-of-112 (29.5%) from deep and 145-of-207 (70%) from the free throw line while averaging 38.1 rebounds per game and 75.4 points per contest.

The Buffs lead the all-time series against the Cowboys, 31-2 with WT taking the first meeting between the two teams back on Nov. 12th in Canyon.

David Chavlovich dropped 28 points and the #22 Buffs held the nation's second highest scoring team 19 points below their season average as WT topped the visiting Falcons of UT Permian Basin, 89-80 in front of over 550 fans at the FUBC.

The Buffs went 29-of-64 (45.3%) from the floor including 9-of-31 (29%) from deep and 22-of-26 (84.6%) from the free throw line with 36 rebounds (eight offensive, 28 defensive), 15 assists, 17 turnovers, eight blocks and eight steals. Chavlovich went 10-of-20 from the floor including 3-of-9 from deep and 5-of-5 from the free throw line to lead all players with 28 points followed by Evans (19), White (15) and Golightly Jr. (12).

LAST MEETING WITH NMHU (NOV. 12, 2016)
WT continued their best start to a season since 2012-13 as they remained unbeaten with a 92-77 victory over the visiting Cowboys of New Mexico Highlands in front of 782 fans at the FUBC during the LSC/RMAC Challenge back on November 12th in Canyon.

The Buffs were led offensively by Chavlovich with 22 points as the Preseason All-American went 5-of-12 from the floor and 9-of-12 from the free throw line to run his career point total to 1,190 to move into seventh place all-time to pass former WTSU standout Simmie Hill (1967-69 | 1,189 pts). WT went 28-of-57 (50.9%) from the floor including 9-of-27 (33.3%) from deep and 25-of-36 (69.4%) from the free throw line to go along with 39 rebounds (nine offensive, 30 defensive), 17 assists, 14 turnovers, two blocks and five steals.

Highlands was led by Woods with 19 points followed by Lawton with 15 and Johnson with 11 while Lawton grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. The Cowboys went 23-of-58 (39.7%) from the floor including 1-of-8 (12.5%) from deep and 30-of-41 (73.2%) from the charity stripe to go along with 38 rebounds (12 offensive, 26 defensive), eight assists, 12 turnovers, two blocks and five steals in the loss.

MOVING ON UP
Junior guard
David Chavlovich is quickly making his way up WT's all-time career scoring list as the Arlington native has scored 1,326 points in his 71 career games in Maroon & White to average an impressive 18.7 points per contest. Chavlovich's 28 points against UT Permian Basin on Tuesday kept the guard in 4th place all-time as he has passed Maurice Cheeks (1975-78 / 1,227) for fifth place and former teammate Tez Dumars (2011-15 / 1,230) for fourth place all-time. Chavlovich currently sits 80 points behind Price Brookfield (1940-42 / 1,406) for third place all-time.

NABC DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (DEC. 6)
The Buffs are off to the best start to a season since 2011-12 as they jumped to number 22 in the newest NABC Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Tuesday afternoon by the association's offices in Kansas City, Missouri. The Buffs (10-1) currently hold the most wins in all of NCAA Division II Basketball including a pair of Top-25 wins against then #23 Arkansas-Fort Smith during the D2CCA DII Tipoff Classic to open the season following a win over then #15 Fort Lewis in the 2016-17 home opener at the First United Bank Center.

WT made their first appearance in the D2SIDA Top-25 Poll on Tuesday afternoon as they jumped to 12th in the poll. The Buffs also jumped three spots to sit atop of this week's South Central Region poll released by D2SIDA.

LSC PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR
WT junior guard
David Chavlovich was nearly a unanimous selection to be named the third LSC Preseason Player of the Year in program history, joining Rod Prater (2003-04) and Donald Sims (2012-13). The Arlington native was named a National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) All-American as a sophomore as he led the LSC in scoring with 20.5 points per game. He set a new program single-season record in three-point field goals made (111) and three-point field goals attempted (287) while joining the 1,000 Point Club and being named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year. The Arlington native has also been named a Preseason All-American by Sporting News and the Basketball Times while making an appearance on the Division II Bulletin Super 16 list.
