WT Basketball Hosts Oklahoma Panhandle State on Tuesday for Family Night at the FUBC

CANYON, Texas –
The Buffs return to the First United Bank Center on Tuesday night as they take on the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State with tipoff set for 6 p.m. in Canyon for Family Night. WT Athletics is offering a $10 Family Ticket Pack along with a schedule poster autograph session and any player or cheerleader wearing a Kid's Inc. shirt will be able to take a postgame group picture with the Buffs.

OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE
Oklahoma Panhandle State is led by 10th year head coach Jerry Olson who entered the season with an overall career record of 53-197.
 
The Aggies enter week with an overall record of 2-1 following a 47-117 exhibition loss at Louisiana-Lafayette last Thursday night. OPSU has split with Western New Mexico and topped Barclay College.
 
OPSU is led offensively by Devonta Brooks who is averaging 16.0 points per game followed by Jace Kerr (15.7), Malcolm Glanville (14.3), Jake Regier (14.3) and Riyadh Asad (12.0) in double-digits while Sita Sesay averages 9.0 rebounds per contest. The Aggies have gone 85-of-199 (42.7%) from the floor including 36-of-106 (34%) from deep and 53-of-76 (69.7%) from the free throw line while averaging 42.0 rebounds and 86.3 points per contest while allowing 78.3 points per game to their opponents.
 
The Buffs lead the all-time series against Oklahoma Panhandle State, 59-5 with the Buffs taking the last eight meetings between the two teams dating back to the 2009-10 season when OPSU topped the Buffs in overtime in Goodwell. The Buffs hold a 19 game home win streak over the Aggies in Canyon dating back to the 1986-87 season.

West Texas A&M trailed by as many as 27 points in the second half before putting together an incredible comeback on Thursday night but a hot shooting effort by Lubbock Christian gave the Chaps the victory, 95-86 to hand WT their first loss of the season in front of over 400 fans at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.
 
The Buffs were led by David Chavlovich with a game high 26 point as the junior went 9-of-21 from the floor including 4-of-13 from deep and 4-of-9 from the free throw line to run his career point total to 1,216. Joseph Prince scored 16 points in the loss followed by Jordan Evans (15) and Skyler O'Laughlin (10). WT went 27-of-72 (37.5%) from the floor including 11-of-39 (28.2%) from deep and 21-of-31 (67.7% from the free throw line to go along with 37 rebounds (18 offensive, 19 defensive), 13 assists, 16 turnovers and 11 steals.
 
LAST MEETING WITH OPSU (12/1/15)
WT picked up their fifth straight victory on Tuesday night as they withstood a late second half run by the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State, 87-77 at Oscar Williams Fieldhouse in front of 200 fans.
 
The Buffs went 29-of-60 (48.3%) from the floor including 12-of-29 (41.4%) from long range and 17-of-29 (58.6%) from the charity stripe to go along with 41 rebounds (11 offensive, 20 defensive), 19 assists, 23 fouls, 16 turnovers, four blocks and seven steals on the night. Chavlovich went 9-of-17 from the floor including 8-of-13 from long range to score a game high 31 points while Evans registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Bonner and Quaid registered 13 points while Golightly Jr. grabbed nine rebounds to go along with four assists.
 
MOVING ON UP
Junior guard David Chavlovich is quickly making his way up WT's all-time career scoring list as the Arlington native has scored 1,216 points in his 65 career games in Maroon & White to average an impressive 18.7 points per contest. Chavlovich's 26 points against Lubbock Christian last Thursday moved the guard into 6th place all-time to pass Mike Mitchell (1967-69 – 1,197) while sitting just 11 points shy of Maurice Cheeks (1975-78 – 1,227) for fifth place and 14 points shy of former teammate Tez Dumars (2011-15 - 1,230) for fourth place all-time.
 
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
The Lone Star Conference expands to 10 basketball-playing institutions starting in 2016-17 as Western New Mexico (Silver City, New Mexico) and UT Permian Basin (Odessa, Texas) join the league.  Each team will play a double round-robin conference schedule with 18 conference games. The Allen Event Center will host the LSC Basketball Championships for the sixth straight season on March 2-5.
 
LSC PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR
WT junior guard David Chavlovich was nearly a unanimous selection to be named the third LSC Preseason Player of the Year in program history, joining Rod Prater (2003-04) and Donald Sims (2012-13). The Arlington native was named a National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) All-American as a sophomore as he led the LSC in scoring with 20.5 points per game. He set a new program single-season record in three-point field goals made (111) and three-point field goals attempted (287) while joining the 1,000 Point Club and being named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year. The Arlington native has also been named a Preseason All-American by Sporting News and the Basketball Times while making an appearance on the Division II Bulletin Super 16 list.
