Men’s Basketball and Women’s Golf Honored by the LSC for Academic Excellence

- LSC Release

RICHARDSON, Texas –
West Texas A&M men's basketball and women's golf were honored for their efforts in the classroom on Tuesday afternoon as the Lone Star Conference announced their 12th annual Academic Excellence Awards presented by Balfour.

For the second consecutive year, the team with the overall highest GPA in the conference was the West Texas A&M Lady Buff golf team. Meredith Jameson's squad posted a 3.910 GPA. The Lady Buffs finished second in the WGCA Team GPA Award for this past season.

On the men's side, Buffalo Basketball registered the highest team GPA in the LSC for the second straight season with a 3.438 GPA. Tom Brown's 2024-25 team was also named a recipient of the NABC Academic Team Excellence Award back in July.

Texas Woman's and St. Edward's claimed the 12th annual Lone Star Conference Academic Excellence Awards. TWU captured its third consecutive and record eighth overall women's award, while the Hilltoppers earned the men's honor for the first time as the athletic departments with the highest collective team grade-point average (GPA) for the 2024-25 academic year.

The overall award winners were determined by a point system, with points distributed according to finish by sport in those that the LSC sponsors after a conference-wide comparison of team GPAs. The member institution with the highest team GPA in each sport was named the Sport Academic Champion and earned five (5) points toward the overall award. The runner-up in each sport picked up four (4) points and third-place three (3) points toward the overall award. Any program with a Team GPA of 2.00 and above earned one (1) point. Points for each member institution were totaled by gender and then divided by that institution's number of counter programs in that gender to arrive at the comparison value.
