Doug Lipinski has announced a contract extension for Buffalo Basketball head coach
Tom Brown thru the Summer of 2028.

Tom has won a lot of games for WT, his goal is to win a national championship for Buff Nation" said Lipinski "This extension illustrates our investment in our basketball program and especially Coach Brown to reach our mutual goal of winning a national title. We look forward to the future of West Texas A&M men's basketball!"

Brown has built the Buffs into one of the elite NCAA Division II programs in the nation since arriving in Canyon prior to the start of the 2014-15 season. He has guided WT to nine consecutive NCAA Tournaments including the Buffs first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2021.

Coach Brown was hired as the 17th head coach in program history on April 16, 2014. In the past eight seasons, Brown and his staff are 201-32 (.867) and an average of 29 wins a season with appearances in the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four and National Title game. During his time in Canyon, Brown is 285-75 (.792) overall and 155-43 (.783) in league action.

The 2024-25 campaign saw WT made the NCAA Tournament for a ninth-consecutive season where three freshmen made the LSC All-Freshman team. The Buffs also posted a 3.48 GPA in the classroom, tops in the Lone Star Conference for a second consecutive year. WT was a recipient of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award as
Brock Mishak and
Nicholas Jett were named to the NABC Honor Court.

The Buffs open their season on October 31-November 1 as they take part in the D2CCA Tipoff Classic in St. Joseph, Missouri with matchups against Missouri Western and Pittsburg State at Civic Arena.Â
