GAME NOTES

CANYON, Texas. -
The West Texas A&M women's soccer team will play the final two matches of their three match road trip against UT Permian Basin and Angelo State this weekend. The Lady Buffs will look for a season sweep of the Falcons on Friday, Oct. 14 in Odessa before traveling to San Angelo for a Sunday afternoon match against the Rambelles.

What is Next?...
The Lady Buffs will return home for three of their final four matches of 2016 welcoming Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's to the Pitch next week. The Lions and WT will face-off on Friday, Oct. 21 before the Pioneers visit The Pitch on Sunday, Oct. 23.
 
About UT Permian Basin…
The Falcons of UT Permian Basin are still looking for their first win of the season after dropping both matches last weekend against Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's by a combined 7-0. UTPB has been outscored 25-4 in 2016 with all four of the those goals coming in the second half.
Deonna Calhoun, Haley Hicks, Ariel Roybal and Kessie Stocker have all scored for UTPB this season as Roybal is second on the team with 14 shots. Elizabeth Garcia and Gisel Olvera have both contributed  one assist this season. Katie Conn has started eight matches in goal this season while Meagan Smith got the start in the Falcons last match against TAMUC. The two goalkeepers have allowed 2.50 goals per match saving 55 of the 154 shots they have faced.
 
The Series with UT Permian Basin…
West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin will face off for the 14th time in school history. The Lady Buffs have won the previous 13 matches by a combined score of 54-7.
 
Last time out…
The Lady Buffs defeated the Falcons 1-0 on Oct. 1 in Canyon on goal in the 7th minute from freshman Gabby Wolf. Ellen Walgren made her first career start in goal for WT making four saves on way to earning a shutout.
 
About Angelo State…
The Rambelles split their matches last week with a bounce back win over Texas Woman's after dropping a match to Texas A&M-Commerce. ASU is 3-2-1 at home this season with victories over New Mexico Highlands, UT Permian Basin and TWU.
Demi Tsambasis continues to lead the conference in goals (10), points (21), shots (57) and shots per game (4.75). The senior forward has been consistent throughout the season having scored in eight of the Rambelles 12 matches. Tiffany Dang leads ASU in assist with three while Haley Mendel and Morgan Sibson both have two each. Freshman Sammy Cude continues to star for the Rambelles in goal as she leads the conference in goals against average (.514) and shutouts per game (.500).
 
The Series with Angelo State…
The Lady Buffs and Rambelles will face off for the 35th time in school history. WT leads the series 16-13-5 with five of those wins coming in San Angelo.  
 
Last time out…
The Lady Buffs dropped a heartbreaker to the Rambelles on Sept. 30 allowing a goal in the final six minutes after tying the match in the 81st minute. Senior Kaitlin Steele scored her first career goal at 80:06 tying the match before a defensive miscue gave ASU a free kick on the right side which resulted in the game-winning goal.
 
A Look Back…
The Lady Buffs won both matches last week against rivals Eastern New Mexico and Midwestern State. A facility record 593 people came out and watched WT dispatch the Greyhounds 4-1 thanks to three straight goals in the second half. Freshman Marlene van Mourik scored two of those goals giving the Lady Buffs their third straight victory over ENMU. WT moved into a three-way tie for second place after defeating MSU on Friday evening in Wichita Falls. Kaitlin Steele and van Mourik both scored first half goals before sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Dippel made three crucial saves in the second half to preserve the 2-1 victory.
 
Lone Star Conference in the Rankings…
Texas A&M-Commerce returns to the NSCAA rankings at No. 24 after receiving votes last week. The Lions moved into the top 25 after winning both of their matches last week including a second half comeback against ASU.
Four LSC teams are ranked in the South Central Poll including WT at No. 10. TAMUC is third followed by Angelo State (6th), Midwestern State (7th) and WT(10th).
 
Second Time is the Charm…
West Texas A&M freshman forward Marlene van Mourik has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week along with Texas A&M Commerce's Savannah Grasser announced on Wednesday morning by the league's offices in Richardson, Texas. It marks the second time this season that van Mourik has earned the award. van Mourik got back on the score sheet this past weekend with a two-goal performance against Eastern New Mexico before scoring the game-winner against Midwestern State on Friday night in Wichita Falls. The Hovborg, Denmark native finished the weekend with 11 shots, five of those on target. She ranks second in the conference in shots per game (3.75) and third in both game-winning goals (2) and points (14).
 
Score First, Win the Match…
The Lady Buffs enter the weekend having won all five matches where they have scored first including both matches last week. There only come from behind win for WT came against New Mexico Highlands on Sept. 8 when they score three unanswered goals. van Mourik has accounted for two of the opening goals while Khadidra Debesette, Kaitlin Steele, Gabby Wolf, Ronni Ajeto and Kaitlin Steele have all scored one a piece.
