Meet Results / WT Performance Chart LUBBOCK, Texas – The West Texas A&M No. 9 men's and No. 8 women's track & field teams closed out their 2015 regular season on Thursday as they competed in the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas. The meet was their second appearance at the Fuller Track & Field Complex during outdoor competition and their sixth total trip to Lubbock this season (indoor & outdoor competition combined).
With many resting with just one week left before the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, only seven athletes made the trip Thursday to Texas Tech.
Leading the way for WT was freshman
Marion Gatignol who saw a large increase in her provisional triple jump mark. She finished the competition in eighth, jumping a PR of 12.03m (39'-5.75"). That mark would put her currently 13
th in the nation.
Only one other Lady Buff made the trip Thursday. Sophomore
Courtney Head competed in women's discus and placed 12
th overall, throwing 37.11m.
Junior transfer
Miguel Mendez was the lone athlete competing in running events for WT on the evening. He finished fourth in the 3000m steeple chase, running a 10:30.84, also a career PR.
In men's discus, freshman
Duke Kicinski finished fourth with a mark of 49.91m. He was followed by junior
Casey Lantelme who set a new PR at 49.05m, finishing sixth. Freshman
John Ferrin also placed 13
th, clearing 42.94m.
WT will be back in action next weekend as it competes in the 2015 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The event will be hosted by Angelo State at Legrand Stadium in San Angelo, Texas. The three-day meet will begin on Thursday, May 7 and will conclude on Saturday, May 9. The Lady Buffs finished second in last year's LSC Outdoor Championship while the men tied for fourth.
