WT Heads to Lawton and Wichita Falls This Weekend for Lone Star Conference Action

CANYON, Texas –
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will take their 29 match Lone Star Conference win streak on the road this weekend as they head to Lawton, Oklahoma on Friday night to take on the Aggies of Cameron at 7 p.m. followed by a Highway 287 Challenge matchup with Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. inside of D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls.
 
WEST TEXAS A&M
The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M dropped the opening set before responding with three straight victories to run their win streak to eight matches with a four set win over the visiting Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian (24-26, 25-22, 25-17, 25-22) in front of over 700 fans at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" on Tuesday night. The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Lauren Bevan with 14 kills followed by Jessica Johnson with nine and Kameryn Hayes with eight, Hayes dished out a team high 31 assists while Kyli Schulz had 15 on the night while Lauren Britten led the team with 22 digs followed by McKenzie Long with 16 and Schulz with 11 for the double-double. West Texas A&M hit .232 as a team with 56 kills on 164 attempts with 18 attack errors to go along with 50 assists, 68 digs and 11.5 total blocks on the night.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, the 2013 LSC and South Central Region Coach of the Year, is now in his sixth season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 320-48 (.868, 11th year) including a 184-28 (.863) mark in Canyon.
 
THE 2014 SCHEDULE
The Lady Buffs will play 33 scheduled matches during the regular season including 16 Lone Star Conference contests, the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" will see a total of 13 regular season contests during the season with eight of those coming in league play.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
The WTAMU Fielhouse "The Box" boasts one of the most successful home-court advantages in the history of NCAA Volleyball on any level. WT is an amazing 427-61 all-time at The Box for a winning percentage of over 88%.

50 YEARS OF LADY BUFF VOLLEYBALL
The 2014 season marks the 50th year of Lady Buff Volleyball. The Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville will travel to Canyon on October 18th for a matchup during the WT Volleyball 50 Year Celebration at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon. Former team members and boosters will return to Canyon for a celebration including a meet & greet, anniversary reception along with recognition during WT's match with Texas A&M-Kingsville.
 
THIS WEEK IN THE LSC
Lone Star Conference volleyball teams are 87-63 overall this season. The squads are currently 15-12 combined versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 9-7 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other leagues in the NCAA South Central Region. West Texas A&M remains atop of the league standings with a perfect 7-0 mark followed by Angelo State (6-2), Texas Woman's (5-3), Tarleton State (5-3), Texas A&M-Kingsville (4-4), Eastern New Mexico (3-4), Cameron (2-5), Midwestern State (1-6) and Texas A&M-Commerce (1-7).
 
CAMERON
The Aggies of Cameron enter the weekend with an overall record of 9-7 with a 2-5 mark in the Lone Star Conference following a sweep of former LSC rival East Central on Tuesday night in Ada, Oklahoma. Cameorn carries a five match win streak into this weekend's games. The Aggies are led offensively by Kat Evans with 174 kills for an average of 2.85 per frame while teammate Ingrid Boatman had dished out a team high 355 assists for an average of 6.57 per frame. Cameron is led by first year head coach Qi Wang who served as the assistant at Angelo State for the past four seasons. The Aggies will host WT on Friday night followed by a matchup with Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon in Lawton,
 
THE SERIES VS. CAMERON
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Aggies, 44-2 with WT taking the last 24 meetings between the two teams dating back to November 14, 1998 when the Agggies topped WT in Lawton during the LSC Tournament. WT has taken the last eight meetings at Aggie Gym in Lawton with the last two coming in straight sets.
 
MIDWESTERN STATE
The Mustangs of Midwestern State enter the weekend with an overall record of 5-12 with a 1-6 mark in Lone Star Conference play following a five set loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville last Saturday in Wichita Falls to drop their third straight match. MSU is led offensively by Nicole Marzik with 170 kills to average 2.58 per set while teammate Sarah Rosinke has dished out a team high 593 assists for an average of 8.24 per frame this season. The Mustangs are led by 11th year head coach Venera Flores-Stafford, she is averaging 17 wins per campaign and has led the Mustangs to the Lone Star Conference Championships in seven of her 10 seasons including the program's first trip to the NCAA Division II postseason in 2007. The Mustangs will host Eastern New Mexico on Friday night in Wichita Falls.
 
THE SERIES VS. MIDWESTERN STATE
The Lady Buffs hold a 28-0 all-time series record against the Mustangs dating back to the start of their meetings during the 1980 season. WT has won all six meetings between the two teams in Wichita Falls with five of them coming in straight sets. The Lady Buffs have made quick work of the Mustangs in their last four meetings, winning those matches in straight sets dating back to a four set win on November 16, 2007 during the NCAA Regional Tournament in Kearney, Nebraska.
