Women's Soccer Team Wins Second in A Row

PORTALES, N.M. -- The West Texas A&M University women's soccer team won easily 5-0, against first-year program Eastern New Mexico, Sunday, October 12, at Portales, N.M.

The Lady Buffs scored their first goal in the 13th minute by sophomore forward Katie Henley, her third of the year, off a cross from sophomore forward Whitney Cates. This was just one of the 33 shots (21 shots on goal) for the Lady Buffs.

WTAMU's second goal came from senior defender Kellie Garrett in the 23rd minute when Cassie Burke took a corner kick and Garrett volleyed the ball from 11 yards out.

Henley's second goal of the game and fourth of the season came in the 51st minute of play in the second half from Garrett to put the Lady Buffs up, 3-0 on the Greyhounds.

Freshman forward Dania Lopez scored in the 69th minute of the year off a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Misti Northcutt which Henley got a head on the ball then Lopez buried the rebound.

The last goal for the Lady Buffs came from Northcutt, who took a corner kick in the 80th minute and bent the ball into the ENMU's net for an unassisted goal.

WTAMU outplayed the first-year team by allowing only two shots, while the Lady Buffs had 33.

ENMU falls to 2-7-0 overall, 1-2-0 in LSC play. The Lady Buffs improve their overall season record to 7-3-1 and 2-1-1 in the LSC. They resume action at home this Friday, Ocotber 17 against Angelo State at 3 p.m., and against Midwestern State on Sunday, October 19 at 2 p.m., both at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
