CANYON, Texas – The #6 Lady Buffs close out the regular season inside the friendly confines of Schaeffer Park this weekend as they welcome #13 Angelo State and UT Permian Basin to Canyon for Lone Star Conference action. Saturday's doubleheader against the Belles features the top two teams in the league standings with four games remaining, WT will honor their senior class following Sunday's contests against the Falcons.

THIS IS LADY BUFF SOFTBALL
West Texas A&M Softball is in their 21st season of NCAA competition as the Lady Buffs are a staggering 823-331 (.713) since reviving the program prior to the 2006 campaign. WT has won three South Central Regional Championships (2014, 2016, 2021) along with a pair of NCAA Division II National Championships (2014, 2021).

2025 REWIND
The Lady Buffs capped off 2025 with a 56-8 overall record and 40-4 Lone Star Conference record. WT opened the campaign ranked 13th before quickly entering the top 10 of the NFCA poll. The Lady Buffs spent 10 weeks in the top five including three weeks at No. 1. WT earned a share of the Lone Star Conference regular season title for the second consecutive season.

WT HEAD COACH MICHAEL MOOK
In just six seasons,
Michael Mook has led West Texas A&M to a 284-67 (.809) mark while claiming the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship. Mook is a two-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year (2024, 2025) who has led the Lady Buffs to four NCAA Postseason appearances (2021, 2023, 2024, 2025). Mook recently agreed to a three-year contract extension to keep him the WT dugout until atleast the Summer of 2028. A new era of Lady Buff softball began on June 20, 2019, as Mook was hired as the third head coach in program history. Mook went 154-61 during his four-year tenure at Valley City State University including an impressive 54-5 in 2019 leading the Vikings to their third-ever appearance at the NAIA World Series.

SCOUTING THE BELLES
Angelo State enters Saturday with an overall record of 42-9 with a 31-5 mark in league action sit just one game behind the Lady Buffs atop of the LSC standings. The Belles are 14-6 on the road this season as they ride a 12-game win streak into Canyon for the final weekend of the regular season.

The Belles are hitting .328 as a team this season, scoring 343 runs on 439 hits with 92 doubles, 22 triples and 42 homeruns for 311 RBI and a slugging percentage of .524. Zoey Sifuentes leads the way at the plate for ASU as the freshman from Lamesa is hitting .423 with 21 doubles, three triples and 11 homeruns for a team-best 68 RBI and a slugging percentage of .808.

Reigning LSC Pitcher of the Week Addy Ewing has served as the ace for the Belles, going 15-0 with a 1.99 ERA as the junior from Owasso, Oklahoma has allowed 26 runs (25 earned) on 75 hits with 21 walks and 54 strikeouts in her 88.0 innings of work for an opposing batting average of .227. The Belles have a 2.55 staff ERA, allowing 144 runs (123 earned) on 302 hits with 111 walks and 240 strikeouts in 337.0 frames with opposing batters hitting .235.

ASU HEAD COACH TRAVIS SCOTT
Travis Scott is in his 23rd season leading the historic Angelo State softball program. The six-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year holds an overall mark of 961-338-2 during his time in San Angelo, averaging 42 wins a season with six trips to the College World Series highlighted by a National Title during his first season in 2004. Scott is the fifth winningest head coach in Division II history (1,062).

THE SERIES
The Lady Buffs and Belles renew a long-time rivalry on Saturday afternoon. WT holds the 44-38 advantage in the series that dates back to February of 2006. Angelo State is 15-25 all-time in Canyon with their last trip coming during the NCAA Tournament a year ago. 17 of the 86 meetings between the two rivals have come either in the LSC or NCAA postseason.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS
UT Permian Basin enters the final weekend of the regular season with an overall record of 18-27 including a 9-25 mark in LSC play to sit 14th in the league standings. The Falcons are 4-10 away from the Permian Basin so far this season.

Amathyst Gonzalez leads the way offensively for the Falcons as the freshman from San Antonio is hitting .306 with eight doubles, a triple and three homeruns for drive in a team-best 20 RBI. UTPB is hitting .254 as a team this season, scoring 158 runs on 285 hits including 45 doubles, eight triples and 23 homeruns to drive in 150 RBI for a slugging percentage of .369 while stealing 23-of-24 bases.

The Falcons hold a staff ERA of 4.70 as they have allowed 266 runs (194 earned) on 362 hits with 125 walks and 217 strikeouts in 289.0 innings of work for an opposing batting average of .298. Jessica Cantrell is 12-9 in the circle with a 2.94 ERA as the sophomore righty has allowed 79 runs (60 earned) on 135 hits with 31 walks and 138 strikeouts in her 143.0 innings of work, tossing 15 complete games with four shutouts.

UTPB HEAD COACH DAVID MARTINEZ
David Martinez is in his first season leading the UT Permian Basin softball program, taking over the reins of the Falcons in May of 2025. Martinez spent the previous four seasons as the head coach at Henderson State, going 66-133 in Arkadelphia. Martinez played collegiate baseball at Sul Ross State.

Sunday afternoon features the 51st and 52nd all-time meetings on the diamond between the Lady Buffs and Falcons. WT holds the 46-4 advantage in the series that dates back to 2007 as the Lady Buffs have won 10 straight meetings. The Falcons are 0-23 al-time in Canyon. Last season saw the West Texas A&M go 4-0 during the regular season meetings, outscoring the Falcons 58-9 with three run-rule wins.
