#6 Lady Buffs Power Their Way Past the Javelinas on the Road

CANYON, Texas – The #6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M connected on nine homeruns on Friday to keep themselves atop of the Lone Star Conference standings with a pair of league wins at Texas A&M-Kingsville at Hubert Field.
 
The Lady Buffs close their regular season road schedule on Sunday with a pair of contests at Texas A&M International starting at Noon in Laredo.
 
Game 1 – West Texas A&M 11, Texas A&M-Kingsville 5
The Lady Buffs jumped on the board in the top of the second inning with an Avery Cannon three-run homer to right field for the early lead, Kingsville answered in the home half of the frame on a Kennia Chong long ball to left tying the game at 3-3.
 
Bella Holland led off the third inning with a solo shot to left for the 4-3 lead. The Javelinas responded again in the bottom of the fourth with an Isabella Hernandez infield single that scored Lainee Ballin at 4-4.
 
WT's powerful offense took control in the fifth inning with Holland and Jordyn De Los Santos connecting on consecutive homers for the 6-4 advantage. TAMUK would answer again in the home half of the frame with an Ella Srubar solo shot at 6-5.
 
The Lady Buffs created chaos on the basepaths in the top of the sixth with Brooke Janning scoring on a double steal at 7-5, De Los Santos connected on her second long ball of the game in the seventh to give WT the 8-5 lead. The Lady Buffs weren't done yet as Janning tripled off the center field wall to drive in a pair followed by a Cannon single up the middle to score Janning at 11-5.
 
Janning claimed the win (18-2) in the circle, allowing five earned runs on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts in her complete game victory.
 
Game 2 – West Texas A&M 11, Texas A&M-Kingsville 5
The Lady Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap with Holland and De Los Santos connecting on back-to-back homers for the 2-0 lead. TAMUK answered in the home half of the second with a Jolyn Perez sac fly at 2-1.
 
WT continued their impressive day at the plate in the third inning as Abby Howell homered to left field to score De Los Santos. The Javelinas tied the game in the bottom of the inning on an Alaunah Amaraz RBI single followed by a Ballin base hit and a wild pitch to make it 4-4.
 
TAMUK took their first lead of the doubleheader in the fourth on an Audri Castillo solo homerun to left. The Lady Buffs responded in the sixth as Janning scored on a passed ball followed by a De Los Santos two-run single at 7-5. WT added insurance runs in the seventh with a Trinity Kuntz solo shot and a Holland bases clearing double for the 11-5 lead.
 
Janning claimed her second win (19-2) on the day, allowing no runs on just two hits with no walks and a strikeout in her 2.0 innings of relief.
