CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Track & Field will have their final regular season meet this weekend in Waco, Texas as they take part in the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor University at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium in Waco.

USTFCCCA NATIONAL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
There's great performances, and then there's what Abigail Abugire did this past weekend at Bryan Clay Invitational. 
 
The sophomore out of West Texas A&M kicked things off with her bread-and-butter event, the 800 meters. Taking a full second off of her personal best, Abugire climbed to No. 3 on the NCAA DII all-time list, running 2:01.79. The 2025 outdoor national champion should be in title contention once again come May. 
 
Her busy schedule continued with a go at the 1500 meters. And boy did it pay off. Abugire stopped the clock at 4:13.03, shaving seven seconds off her previous best, and moving her up to No. 7 in the NCAA DII record books. The exclamation point was beating NCAA DII mile record holder Helen Braybrook of CSU-Pueblo head-to-head by nearly four seconds.
