USTFCCCA NATIONAL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
There's great performances, and then there's what
Abigail Abugire did this past weekend at Bryan Clay Invitational.Â
Â
The sophomore out of West Texas A&M kicked things off with her bread-and-butter event, the 800 meters. Taking a full second off of her personal best, Abugire climbed to No. 3 on the NCAA DII all-time list, running 2:01.79. The 2025 outdoor national champion should be in title contention once again come May.Â
Â
Her busy schedule continued with a go at the 1500 meters. And boy did it pay off. Abugire stopped the clock at 4:13.03, shaving seven seconds off her previous best, and moving her up to No. 7 in the NCAA DII record books. The exclamation point was beating NCAA DII mile record holder Helen Braybrook of CSU-Pueblo head-to-head by nearly four seconds. Â
