CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M shot rounds of 300 and 294 on Monday to sit tied atop of the team leaderboard following the first two rounds at the Lone Star Conference Men's Golf Championships at Rockwall Golf & Athletic Club (Par 72 – 7,320 Yards).
The Buffs were led by
David Vega Gerstel who carded identical rounds of 71 and 71 as the only player in the 70-player field in the red at -2 (142) to hold a three-stroke lead over Midwestern State's Seth Bearden (145, +1) entering the final 18 holes of stroke play. The freshman from Spain led the field with nine birdies on Monday with five coming in the opening round.
WT's two-round score of 594 (+18) is tied with the Cameron Aggies atop of the team leaderboard to hold a three-stroke lead over UT Tyler (+21, 597).
Tuesday's final round will see the Buffs paired with Cameron and UT Tyler with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. The top four teams following stroke play advance to Medal Match Play on Wednesday.
