Buffs Battle the Rival #11 Greyhounds on Tuesday in Canyon

CANYON, Texas – The Buffs of West Texas A&M continue Lone Star Conference action on Tuesday night as they battle the #11 Eastern New Mexico Greyhound in a rivalry showdown at the First United Bank Center in Canyon with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
 
OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN REWIND
WTM junior guard Fontaine Williams Jr. tied a season-high with 29 points on Saturday afternoon as the Buffaloes picked up a 91-87 LSC win over the Oklahoma Christian Eagles at the Payne Athletic Center. Williams Jr. converted 12 of 13 free throws and three 3-pointers, while also recording three steals. Brock Mishak added 15 points, shooting 7-for-14 from the field, and collected eight rebounds. Camden Cowgill contributed 14 points, making six free throws and hitting two 3-pointers.
 
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
Eastern New Mexico rides a seven-game win streak into Tuesday night as they are 19-3 overall with a 12-2 mark in Lone Star Conference action to sit tied atop of the league standings with DBU. The Greyhounds are a perfect 10-0 so far this season in true road contests. 
 
Last weekend saw the Hounds pick up LSC wins at Oklahoma Christian (87-76) and Cameron (87-73). Five different Greyhounds finished in double-figures on Saturday afternoon in Lawton as ENMU shot 58.3% (35-of-60) from the floor while outrebounding the Aggies 40-14 in the win. Austin Abrams led the way for ENMU, going 6-of-10 from the floor including 2-of-3 from deep and 2-of-2 from the free throw line for a game-high 16 points to go along with four boards, two assists and three steals.
 
Jose Murillo leads the way offensively for the Greyhound as the senior forward from Chihuahua, Mexico has gone 130-of-200 (65%) from the floor including 75-of-136 (55.1%) from the free throw line to average 16.0 points per game to go along with 189 rebounds, 36 assists, 13 steals and 35 blocks. Murillo has reached double-figures 19 times this season with 10 double-doubles.
 
ENMU HEAD COACH DAVEN VÕ
Daven Võ is in his second season leading the Eastern New Mexico men's basketball program. Võ led the Greyhounds to an overall record of 18-11 and a trip to the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Championships in Frisco last season.
 
Võ came to Portales following one season as the Associate Head Coach at UC Colorado Springs. He brought more than 15 years of coaching experience to the Land of Enchantment and is no stranger to ENMU. He spent three years in Portales as an assistant coach from 2020-23.
 
THE SERIES
Tuesday night marks the 120th all-time meeting in the rivalry series between the Buffs and Greyhounds. WT is 98-21 in the series that dates back to 1935 as the Greyhounds snapped a 16-game losing streak to WT earlier this season. ENMU is 7-51 all-time in the Texas Panhandle as they have dropped their last 10 trips to Canyon.
 
The last meeting saw the Greyhounds shoot 59% (36-of-61) from the floor as they forced 14 Buffalo turnovers while outscoring WT 54-32 in the paint in a 97-89 victory in Portales. James Parlow Jr. led the way offensively for the Buffs, going 6-of-10 from the floor and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line for a team-best 20 points to go along with four rebounds, eight assists, one block and two steals.
 
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Tom Brown, now in his 12th season at the helm of the West Texas A&M men's basketball program, has built the Buffs into one of the elite NCAA Division II programs in the nation.  He has guided WT to nine consecutive NCAA Tournaments including the Buffs first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2021. Brown reached the 300-win plateau with an 87-67 victory at Cameron on February 5, 2026.
 
Brown was hired as the 17th head coach in program history on April 16, 2014. In the past 10 seasons, Coach Brown and his staff are 281-70 (.804) and an average of 27 wins a season with appearances in the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four (2) and National Title game. During his time in Canyon, Brown is 301-83 (.787) overall and 162-49 (.773) in league action. 
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Defending Regional Champion Dallas Baptist claimed 42 of the possible 51 first place votes for a total of 850 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (two first place, 724), Lubbock Christian (four first place, 720), St. Edward's (669) and West Texas A&M (two first place, 654) to round out the top five.
 
Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico tied for sixth with 592 points followed by Midwestern State (558), UT Permian Basin (468), Texas A&M International (one first place, 350), Texas A&M-Kingsville (330), Cameron (301), Oklahoma Christian (266), UT Tyler (260), Western New Mexico (193), UT Dallas (188) and Sul Ross State (88).

LSC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Fontaine Williams Jr. averaged 25.5 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists to fuel a pair of road wins at Cameron and Oklahoma Christian. Williams Jr. was 6-for-13 from 3-point range, made 21 of 23 free-throw attempts and had two steals. He tied a season-high with 29 points against Cameron to help snap the Buffs' five-game skid. Williams Jr. has scored 20 or more points 12 times this season and reached double figures in all but one game.
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE NEWS & NOTES
With three weeks remaining in the Lone Star Conference men's basketball regular season, DBU (18-6 overall) and No. 11 Eastern New Mexico (19-3 overall) are tied for first place at 12-2.
 
DBU topped No. 7 Lubbock Christian (20-4, 11-3 LSC) 80-75 in a first-place showdown in Dallas, Texas on Saturday night. ENMU has won a league-best seven consecutive games and is unbeaten away from home (10-0).
 
Western New Mexico (17-5, 11-4 LSC) is receiving votes in the national poll for the first time in program history. No. 19 St. Edward's (20-4, 9-4 LSC) has won four games in a row.
 
In non-conference play, LSC teams have gone 40-24 against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams.
