CANYON, Texas – The #7 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M return to the First United Bank Center on Thursday night for Lone Star Conference action as they host the St. Edward's Hilltoppers with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. in Canyon.
 
SUL ROSS STATE REWIND
The then #8 Lady Buffs connected 17 times from behind the arc on Sunday afternoon with seven of them coming from senior Zoey McBroom in a 93-63 Lone Star Conference road victory over the Sul Ross State Lobos at the Gallego Center in Alpine, Texas. McBroom scored 23 points, making all seven of her 3-point attempts. Chloe Callahan added 21 points, converting five of seven from beyond the arc. Abbi Holder recorded seven assists and collected two steals. Taylor Haggan posted eight points and grabbed five rebounds while also adding two steals.
 
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
St. Edward's enters the week with an overall record of 9-4 with a 3-2 mark in Lone Star Conference action. The opening weekend of 2026 saw the Hilltoppers fall to then #7 Lubbock Christian (70-54) on Friday night before responding with a 80-52 win over Midwestern State on Sunday in Austin.
 
Sunday afternoon saw the Hilltoppers score 27 points in the first quarter on their way to a 80-52 win over the Mustangs. SEU shot 54.7% (29-of-53) from the floor including 31.3% (5-of-16) from deep and 70.8% (17-of-24) from the stripe with 44 rebounds and eight blocks. Kiana Bennett led the way with 18 points as the senior went 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-5 from deep with four boards, five assists and three steals.
 
Suni Davis leads the way offensively for the Hilltoppers junior guard from Fort Worth has gone 55-of-144 (38.2%) from the floor including 15-of-55 (27.3%) from behind the arc and 61-of-71 (85.9%) from the charity stripe to average 14.3 points per game to go along with 42 rebounds, 31 assists, 20 steals and two blocks. Davis has reached double-figures in 10 games so far this season while scoring 20+ points in three contests, her season-best 27 points came against South Dakota Mines on November 16th.
 
SEU HEAD COACH J.J. RIEHL
J.J. Riehl is now in her 14th season at the helm of the St. Edward's women's basketball program as she holds an overall record of 185-190 during her time in Austin with a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. She took over the program in 2012 following a decade as the top assistant, helping the Toppers to the 2005-06 Heartland Conference Title. Riehl played her college career at SEU, earning two all-conference honors during her time on the hilltop.
 
THE SERIES
Thursday night marks the 15th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Hilltoppers as WT holds the 13-1 all-time advantage with the Lady Buffs claiming the last seven meetings in a series that dates back to 1998. The Hilltoppers are 0-8 all-time in Canyon.
 
Last year's meeting saw the Lady Buffs score 48 points in the second half on their way to a 73-62 victory over the Hilltoppers on Senior Day. Randi Harding led the way for the Lady Buffs going 5-of-11 from the floor including 1-of-3 from deep and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe for a game-high 18 points to go along with three boards and two assists. Taylor Haggan chipped in 12 points and five rebounds followed by Claire Graham with nine points and Hollie Stalder with eight.
 
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs made the program's 29th appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason during the 2024-25 campaign as they went 19-13 overall with a 12-10 mark in the LSC. The Lady Buffs advanced to the South Central Regional Semifinals.
 
Prock reached the 300 career victory milestone on Thursday, December 4th in a 76-51 victory over Oklahoma Christian at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June, 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to their only three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 294-47 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 86.6%. WT has averaged 1,035 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
LSC PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR
West Texas A&M senior guard Kyla Kane was tabbed the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year announced on Monday, October 20th. The 5-foot-10 native of Wellington, Texas, averaged 13.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. She shot 89.8 percent from the free throw line and made 56 3-pointers.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
The Lady Buffs were selected fourth in the 2025 LSC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Defending Regional Champion Texas Woman's claimed 20 of the possible 51 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 810 points followed by Lubbock Christian (14 first place, 776), UT Tyler (eight first place, 761), West Texas A&M (six first place, 663) and Eastern New Mexico (two first place, 657) to round out the top five. Angelo State (656) sits sixth followed by Texas A&M-Kingsville (564), UT Permian Basin (466), Midwestern State (461), St. Mary's (438), St. Edward's (363), Oklahoma Christian (310), Cameron (262), Texas A&M International (one first place, 210), UT Dallas (168), Western New Mexico (161) and Sul Ross State (77).
 
WBCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL
The Lady Buffs jumped up to 7th in the newest edition of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) DIvision II Top-25 Poll announced on Tuesday.
 
The South Central Region is represented by Texas Woman's (3rd), WT (7th), Colorado Mesa (10th), Lubbock Christian (12th) and St. Mary's (RV).
 
LIVE COVERAGE
The contest will be broadcasted on FloCollege. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history.
