Buffs Finish Sixth in Riverside, Punch Their Ticket to Nationals

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's golf kept their season alive on Saturday as they shot a 287 (-1) to finish sixth at the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional Championships at Victoria Club in Riverside, California.

The sixth-place finish gives the Buffs their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Championships where they advanced to the semifinals of medal match play last season. The West/South Central Region was allocated six spots at the National Championships due to three of the region's squad advancing to medal match play in 2024.

Santiago Caride continued to play well for the Buffs as he shot a 73 (+1) on Saturday to finish tied for 13th overall followed by Stetson Provence with a 70 (-2) to sit tied for 17th on the individual leaderboard. The Buffs concluded the tournament 58 birdies and five eagles on their way to a team score of 844 (-20).

Top-ranked Colorado Christian shot a -12 (276) during the final round to win the Regional Championship with a -46 (818) for a 14-stroke victory over Oklahoma Christian (-32). Cal State East Bay finished third (-29) followed by St. Mary's (-26), Cal State San Bernardino (-25) and West Texas A&M (-20) to advance to nationals.

Oskari Nikku of Oklahoma Christian shot a five-under 67 on Saturday to finish -17 (199) on his way to a Regional Championship by three strokes of Sangha Park of Colorado Christian (-14). Agustin Pizzorno of Colorado State-Pueblo and Cambron Nevill of Sonoma State will represent the region at the National Championships as the top two individuals outside of the qualifying teams.
