CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M softball team concludes its regular season schedule on the road at No. 7-ranked Angelo State on Sunday, April 27. The top 10 matchup is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first pitch in game one with game two to follow.
The Lady Buffs can clinch the LSC title outright with a pair of wins on Sunday.

The Athletic Communications Department from Angelo State will provide live stats and a pay-per-view web stream. A LOOK AT THE #1 LADY BUFFS
West Texas A&M softball endured over a five hour weather delay to force a split with the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps. The Lady Buffs couldn't generate offense in game one in a 4-1 loss before bouncing back with a 6-3 victory in game two. WT moves its record to 49-3 overall and 39-3 in Lone Star Conference play while LCU moves to 33-19 overall and 24-18 in league play.
The Lady Buffs feature another high-octane lineup that ranks inside the top 10 for Division II for almost every offensive category including doubles, triples, and walks. WT leads the country in batting average, hits, home runs, on-base percentage, RBIs, runs, scoring, and slugging percentage.
Junior
Emilee Boyer's .489 batting average ranks second in the country and leads the team where 14 different players have a .300 batting average or higher. Boyer's 84 RBIs and 1.022 slugging percentage lead Division II while her 20 home runs rank second.
Lauren Granger's 151 total bases hold the national lead while her seven triples rank eighth and 75 hits rank 10
th nationally.
In the circle, WT has posted a 1.87 ERA with 368 strikeouts and 87 earned runs in 326 innings. All four WT pitchers have reached double-digit strikeouts including Boyer with 206,
Heidi Vortherms with 114,
Kendall Selitzky with 38, and
Ashley Mandell with 10. The Lady Buffs' 7.88 strikeouts per seven innings ranks third while the 1.88 ERA ranks ninth in the country.
Head Coach
Michael Mook is in his sixth season at WT, registering a 235-56 (.806) record in that time. For his career, Mook holds 389-117 record in 10 seasons for an overall winning percentage of .769.
SCOUTING #7 ANGELO STATE
The Rambelles host the Lady Buffs following a split with Midwestern State on Friday. Angelo State shut out the Mustangs 7-0 in the first game, scoring five runs in the second. In game two, Midwestern State scored six runs late and held off a late Rambelles comeback.
Laylonna Applin leads the Angelo State offense as the sophomore holds a .437 batting average with a 1.406 OPS, .892 slugging average, and .514 on-base percentage. The Samford, Texas native leads the team with 69 hits, 16 doubles, seven triples, 14 home runs, 61 RBI, and 141 total bases. Ashton McMillan follows with a .362 batting average, 51 hits, 32 runs, and 46 RBI.
As a pitching staff, Angelo State holds a 2.45 ERA in 334.1 innings of work. During that time, opponents are hitting .236 while hitting 43 doubles, eight triples, and 21 home runs while striking out 249 times. Cheyenne Floyd leads the team with a 1.66 ERA on 30 appearances and 24 starts with 10 complete games, four shutouts, two saves, and 162 strikeouts.
Travis Scott is in his 22
nd season as the head coach of the Angelo State program and 25
th overall. Scott holds a 1014-373-3 (.731) record for his career with an 913-323-1 (.738) record at the helm of the Rambelles.
THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Angelo State with a 41-36 record with a 16-19 record in San Angelo. The Lady Buffs are 11-3 against the Rambelles under
Michael Mook. Earlier this season, the Lady Buffs used big innings in game one to post a 10-6 victory before a seventh inning walk-off single capped off game two with an 8-7 score. In the 2024 season, WT and Angelo State met four times with the Lady Buffs taking three of four. The regular season series saw WT defeat the Rambelles in the first two games before dropping the finale. When the two teams met in the NCAA Tournament, the Lady Buffs used three late runs to eliminate Angelo State from the national bracket.

NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS
The Lady Buffs ranked second in this week's NCAA South Central Region Rankings as announced by the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Wednesday. The NCAA will release an additional ranking ahead on April 30.
UT Tyler topped the rankings followed by West Texas A&M in second and Angelo State in third. Oklahoma Christian ranked fourth with Colorado Mesa, MSU Denver, Colorado Christian and Lubbock Christian following. Cameron and St. Edward's occupy the ninth and 10
th spots, respectively.
NFCA RANKINGS
WT received all 16 first-place votes to gather 400 points and the No. 1 ranking for the third week with Francis Marion taking the No. 2 spot once again with 384 points. UT Tyler moved up a spot with 368 points followed by Tampa (347) and Central Oklahoma (325) to round out the top five. The sixth through ninth spots saw no change with Auburn Montgomery (324), Angelo State (311), North Georgia (286), and Southern Arkansas (277) holding still. Western Washington rejoined the top 10 with 214 points.
The South Central region is represented by four teams with WT leading the way at No. 1. UT Tyler (3
rd), Angelo State (7
th), and Oklahoma Christian (16
th) earned spots in the rankings.
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning National Champion UT Tyler took the top spot in the poll with 34 first-place votes and 672 points followed by WT with eight first-place votes and 642 points. Angelo State grabbed the final first-place vote for 590 points with Oklahoma Christian following at 528 points. Lubbock Christian and St. Mary's tied for fifth in the poll with each school totaling 483 points. Texas Woman's (382), Texas A&M-Kingsville (372), Cameron (348), and Eastern New Mexico (315) occupy the seventh through 10
th spots, respectively. St. Edward's (293), Texas A&M International (215), Midwestern State (214), UT Permian Basin (97), and Sul Ross State (72) round out the poll.
