CANYON, Texas – The #2 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M ran their win streak to a dozen games on Saturday afternoon as they swept past the St. Mary's Rattlers in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.
The Lady Buffs hit the road next weekend as they travel to Lubbock Christian on Friday afternoon followed by a Sunday doubleheader at Midwestern State.
Game 1 – West Texas A&M 9, St. Mary's 2
game was tightly contested early, with both teams scoring one run in the second inning.
Cadence Colborn put the Lady Buffs on the board with a solo home run, equalizing after St. Mary's had taken the lead on an RBI single.
In the third inning, the Lady Buffs' offense exploded for six runs.
Jordyn De Los Santos doubled, setting the stage for a series of plays that included an RBI walk by Colborn and an RBI hit-by-pitch for
Brooke Janning.
Emily Liskai and
Mya Chacon added to the tally with a fielder's choice and a single, respectively, which drove in multiple runs.
Bella Holland capped off the inning with an RBI double, bringing the score to 7-2 in favor of the Lady Buffs.
The fifth inning saw Liskai extend the lead further with a solo home run, making it 8-2. In the sixth, De Los Santos stole home after a fielding error, adding another run to the total.
Janning claimed the win (11-1) in the circle, allowing two earned runs on six hits with one walk and five strikeouts in her 6.0 innings of work.
Game 2 – West Texas A&M 12, St. Mary's 0 (5 Innings)
In the first inning,
Bella Holland singled, and
Jordyn De Los Santos reached on a fielder's choice before
Abby Howell hit a two-run homer to center field for the early 2-0 lead.
The second inning saw an explosive performance from the Lady Buffs' offense. After
Brooke Janning was hit by a pitch, Kendall Luna De La came in as a pinch runner and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Emily Liskai walked, and a wild pitch allowed both Luna De La and Liskai to score.
Heaven Moreno's single and subsequent scoring on a wild pitch contributed to a seven-run inning, increasing the lead to 9-0 after two innings.
In the fourth inning, the Lady Buffs continued to extend their lead.
Melanie Baldwin doubled, and
Landri Holcomb and
Ava Sharp added singles.
Briley Daniels tripled, driving in two runs, followed by Moreno's RBI single at 12-0.
Laci Peskey picked up the victory (11-2) for the Lady Buffs, allowing no runs on just two hits with no walks and two strikeouts in her three innings of work.
