CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M's
Jordyn De Los Santos connected on homeruns in each of her first three plate appearances on Friday afternoon as the #2 Lady Buffs claimed a pair of Lone Star Conference run-rule wins over the St. Edward's Hilltoppers at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.
*SCHEDULE UPDATE* Due to high winds in the forecast, the LSC doubleheader originally scheduled for Sunday against St. Mary's will now be played on Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Canyon.
Game 1 – West Texas A&M 11, St. Edward's 1 (5 Innings)
WT got on the board in the home half of the first inning as
Jordyn De Los Santos lifted a two-run homer to left center for the early advantage. The Lady Buffs added to their lead in the second on another De Los Santos long ball, this time a three-run shot to left at 5-0.
The Lady Buffs used the long ball again in the third inning with a
Bella Holland two-run homer to left followed later in the frame by a solo homerun to left by De Los Santos as she became just the fourth Lady Buff in program history with three homers in a single game.
St. Edward's cut into the lead in the top of the fourth inning with a Dafne Mercado solo homerun to left field. WT ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with a walkoff three-run long ball by Holland down the left field line for the 11-1 win.
Brooke Janning claimed the win (10-2) for the Lady Buffs, allowing no runs on no hits with a walk in her three innings of work.
Reagan Sucher tossed the final two frames, allowing one earned run on a hit with one strikeout.
Game 2 – West Texas A&M 9, St. Edward's 0 (5 Innings)
The Lady Buffs got on the board in the nightcap in the bottom of the first as De Los Santos singled to center field to score Holland followed by a Kuntz RBI single before Colborn connected on a three-run homer to center field for the 5-0 lead.
WT added to their advantage in the second inning with a two-run long ball from
Abby Howell followed by a Hilltopper error that plated two more runs at 9-0. That's all the lead that the Lady Buffs would need as they held the Hilltoppers scoreless over the final three frames for the run-rule shutout win.
Laci Peskey claimed the win (10-2) in the circle, allowing no runs on one hit with no walks and two strikeouts in her 3.0 innings of work.
Ava Sharp closed out the final two frames, allowing one hit with a pair of strikeouts in relief.
