CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M softball closes out its time in The Land of Enchantment on Sunday when the Lady Buffs face the Western New Mexico Greyhounds. The No. 3-ranked Lady Buffs and Mustangs are scheduled for a 1 p.m. Central first pitch at Mustang Field in Silver City.

The Athletic Communications Department from Western New Mexico will provide live stats and a pay-per-view web stream. Fans will need to purchase a monthly ($19.99) or annual ($107.88) subscription with FloSports, the official streaming provider of the Lone Star Conference. A LOOK AT THE #3 LADY BUFFS
Strong hitting from the West Texas A&M softball team powered the Lady Buffs to a doubleheader sweep over rival Eastern New Mexico on Friday. The Lady Buffs pulled away late in game one for a 7-2 victory before slugging their way to a 14-1 run-rule victory over the Greyhounds. WT improves to 34-2 overall on the year and 24-2 in Lone Star Conference play while Eastern New Mexico falls to 20-16 overall and 13-13 in league play.
 
The Lady Buffs feature another high-octane lineup that ranks inside the top 10 for Division II for almost every offensive category including doubles, hits, home runs, on-base percentage, RBIs, runs, and triples. WT leads the country in batting average, scoring, and slugging percentage.
 
Junior Emilee Boyer's .480 batting average leads the team where 13 different players have a .300 batting average or higher. Boyer's 13 home runs and 52 RBIs rank in the top three of Division II while her .970 slugging percentage ranks fourth. Lauren Granger's 111 total bases tie for the national lead while her six triples rank in the top 10 nationally.
 
In the circle, WT has posted a 1.89 ERA with 249 strikeouts and 62 earned runs in 230 innings. Boyer and Vortherms have over 80 strikeouts each on the season as Kendall Selitzky also has double digits (28) on the season.
 
Head Coach Michael Mook is in his sixth season at WT, registering a 220-55 (.800) record in that time. For his career, Mook holds 374-116 record in 10 seasons for an overall winning percentage of .763.
 
SCOUTING WESTERN NEW MEXICO
The Mustangs posted a doubleheader sweep of Midwestern State on Friday afternoon. After trailing 7-5, Western New Mexico responded with six unanswered runs for an 11-7 win in game one. Game two saw WNMU jump out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning on its way to a 10-9 win to improve to 12-23 on the season and 9-17 in LSC play.
 
Lauryn Crbajal leads the WNMU offense as the freshman holds a .419 batting average with a 1.288 OPS, .814 slugging percentage, and .474 on-base percentage. The Tucson, Ariz. native leads the team with 36 hits, 23 runs, 23 RBIs, and seven home runs. Antonya Lucero follows with a .400 batting average, 36 hits, 22 runs, and 20 RBI.
 
As a pitching staff, the Mustangs hold a 7.25 ERA in 215.1 innings of work. During that time, opponents are hitting .370 while hitting 82 doubles, 12 triples, and 40 home runs while striking out 95 times. Haiven Schoolcraft leads the team with a 6.50 ERA on 15 appearances and three starts with 23 strikeouts. Labraida Tenorio is the Mustangs primary starter with seven starts on 18 apppearances and a team-leading 26 strikeouts.
 
Ashley Hickman is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Western New Mexico program and 10th overall. Hickman holds a 37-141 (.208) record for her career with a 122-305 (.286) record at the helm of the Mustangs. 
 
THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series with Western New Mexico with a 28-0 record with a 9-0 record in Silver City. The Lady Buffs are 12-0 against the Mustangs under Michael Mook. In the 2024 season, WT swept Western New Mexico in Silver City. The Lady Buffs slugged 13 home runs in the series on their way to 17-2, 17-4, and 9-1 wins with each ending in five innings.

NFCA RANKINGS 
The top three teams remained intact with movement below as six of the seven teams received new rankings this week. UT Tyler still leads the way with 15 first-place votes and 399 points followed by Tampa (1 fpv, 384) and West Texas A&M (369). Francis Marion moved to No. 4 with 341 points with Auburn Montgomery holding at No. 5 and 336 points. Central Oklahoma (313), Angelo State (302), Rogers State (288), North Georgia (275), and Augustana (266) close out the top 10.
 
The South Central region is represented by four teams with UT Tyler leading the way at No. 1. WT (3rd), Angelo State (7th), and Oklahoma Christian (20th) earned spots in the rankings.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning National Champion UT Tyler took the top spot in the poll with 34 first-place votes and 672 points followed by WT with eight first-place votes and 642 points. Angelo State grabbed the final first-place vote for 590 points with Oklahoma Christian following at 528 points. Lubbock Christian and St. Mary's tied for fifth in the poll with each school totaling 483 points. Texas Woman's (382), Texas A&M-Kingsville (372), Cameron (348), and Eastern New Mexico (315) occupy the seventh through 10th spots, respectively. St. Edward's (293), Texas A&M International (215), Midwestern State (214), UT Permian Basin (97), and Sul Ross State (72) round out the poll.
