CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs return to the floor on Saturday afternoon as they host the rival Belles of Angelo State in a Lone Star Conference showdown on 806 Day with tipoff set for 1:00 p.m.
 
UT PERMIAN BASIN RECAP
The Lady Buffs got back in the win column on Thursday night as they outlasted UT Permian Basin in LSC divisional action, 72-67 at the First United Bank Center during Paint the Floor Pink Night in Canyon. Claire Graham led the way offensively for the Lady Buffs as the junior from Tuscola went 6-of-11 from the floor including 2-of-5 from behind the arc for a team-best 17 points to go along with five rebounds and a steal.
 
A LOOK AT THE BELLES
Angelo State enters the weekend with an overall record of 16-6 with a 12-4 mark in Lone Star Conference action as they sit second in the West Division standings. The Belles are 8-4 away from the Junell Center so far this season.
 
Thursday night's contest in Portales saw the Belles make a late run in the fourth quarter before falling to Eastern New Mexico, 71-67 at Greyhound Arena. Keniah Williams led the way for ASU as she went 9-of-18 from the floor for a team-best 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds for a double-double.
 
The Belles, picked sixth in the LSC women's basketball preseason poll, finished last season with an overall record of 20-12 with a 14-8 mark in league action. Angelo State advanced to the quarterfinal round of the LSC Championships before falling to UT Permian Basin in Frisco, 71-51.
 
Madeline Stephens, a Second Team All-LSC selection last season, leads the way offensively for the Belles as the senior forward from Lubbock has gone 122-of-280 (43.6%) from the floor including 11-of-39 (28.2%) from behind the arc and 47-of-56 (83.9%) from the line to average 13.7 points per game to go along with 206 rebounds, 44 assists, 44 steals and 22 blocks. Stephens ranks ninth in the Lone Star Conference in scoring (13.7) and second in rebounding (7.0).
 
ASU HEAD COACH ALESHA ELLIS
Alesha Ellis is now in her fourth season at the helm of the Angelo State women's basketball program after spending eight seasons at Wayland Baptist where she led the Flying Queens to an overall mark of 189-52 with eight NAIA Tournament appearances. Ellis was a standout prep-player at nearby Plainview High School where she claimed three 3A State Championships with the Bulldogs followed by a collegiate career at Texas Tech.
 
THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon marks the 85th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Belles as WT holds a 60-24 advantage in the series that dates back to 1987. Angelo State is 8-34 all-time in Canyon including 5-20 at the First United Bank Center.
 
The last meeting came on January 9th in San Angelo as Claire Graham and Kyla Kane scored 17 points each in a 74-62 victory by the Belles. Angelo State shot 45.2% (28-of-62) from the floor including 35.7% (10-of-28) from behind the arc in the win.
 
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his fourth season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs made the program's 28th appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason during the 2022-23 campaign as they went 21-11 overall including a 14-8 mark in LSC action. 
 
Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to their only three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 288-45 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 86.6%. WT has averaged 1,035 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
LIVE COVERAGE
The contest will be broadcasted on FloCollege. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history.
 
HOME OF CHAMPIONS
West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II. The Buffs and Lady Buffs finished third in the 2023-24 Division II LEARFIELD Director's Cup standings. It marked the sixth straight and eighth overall time that WT finished inside of the Top-10 including the fifth straight inside of the Top-5.
 
LSC NEWS & NOTES (FEB. 3)
February means crunch time for Lone Star Conference women's basketball. Four weeks remain in the regular season with teams continuing to battle not only for one of the eight LSC Tournament berths, but for a favorable seed in the bracket. ... Teams continue play within their respective East or West Division this week (Feb. 6, 8).
 
The turn of the calendar has three teams holding in first place in the LSC overall game standings: Texas Woman's, UT Tyler and Lubbock Christian. ... The two division-leading teams – UTT (East) and LCU (West) – carry identical 9-0 records. ... Seeding for the eight-team LSC Tournament is based on overall standings (22 games). The East and West Division winners automatically qualify for the LSC Tournament but are not guaranteed a top two seed.
 
Angelo State tied an LSC season-best with 30 assists against Sul Ross State (Jan. 30). Majik Esquivel was credited with 10 of the Rambelles' assists. ASU totaled 61 rebounds in its SRSU win, then came back for 24 steals vs. Western New Mexico (Feb. 1), including seven by Medeline Stephens. ... Midwestern State's Kerbie Cash sank 14-of-17 free throws and scored 29 points vs. Eastern New Mexico (Jan. 30). MSU sank 33 free throws as a team, the LSC single-game best. ...  Ashley Ingram pulled down 16 rebounds and handed out seven assists in her 24 minutes in the Texas Woman's win over Cameron (Feb. 1).
